The two producers play their cards close to their chest. They call themselves Paris The Black Flu und Andy „Dr. Toefinger“ Toth. And hopefully we didn´t get that wrong. The track „Sandwiches“ gave them their break in 2000 and the title even managed to appear in the Top 20 US-Charts. We asked them to grand us an interview about their new album „BUttFUnkula and the Remixes from Earth“ and about their plans for the new year.

You released a new album called „BUttFUnkula and the Remixes from Earth? Yeah we released 2 EPs, then the album just came out.

How comes the idea to release an album full with remixes? We’ve always liked the artists we collaborated with and thought it would be a good idea to get their interpretations of the tracks.  Plus, we really like the tracks we had them remix and wanted to update them in a way.

What can the listener expect from it? A different range of styles and good music to listen, or dance to.

Your songs have been often remixed. Has there ever been a remix, which you did not like?
Maybe one or two from the early days of Sandwiches that were out of our control as the label (Jive/ Zomba) picked them, but recently, no.

Which track from the album you play most at the moment?
I play two at the moment, the Sam Sessions remix of Dr. Bootygrabber and the Advent remix of Thanks For Coming.  Mr. O plays the Robert Hood remix of FUnk All Y’all, but we play all of them at different times depending on the type of party.  If it is more of an electro party then the Aux 88 remix of Suture The Future, Ectomorph’s remix of Plasticene Gene, Robotnick’s version of After School Special and the ghetto tech mix of Ride the DJ Godfather did. They all have their place in our sets just depends what we think will fit on the occasion.

A little brainstorming (What´s the first thing that comes in your mind when hearing the following…)
Sandwiches: Booty
Detroit: Family
Love: Strong
Secrets: It’s good to have a few
Success: Beware of how you define it.
Stage Names: Johnny and Walker
Religion: There is one…

If you are invited to your friend´s house ?… Yes, yes go on ; ) do they play your own tracks? Yes, but only if I promise to stop asking.

What makes you happy? That’s a very broad question.  Making music or learning how to use a piece of gear or software correctly, cooking, eating what I cook, booty, drinking with my wife and friends, talking to my mother, being on stage in a small hot club with CLEAN, LOUD SOUND!!! I can go on but I think I’ll stop here.

Five things you can´t live without?

My gear, my love of life, booty, food and air.

What means music to you? Anything that consoles you, or effects you emotionally.  Music doesn’t always have to be something played with an instrument or something with a melody.  The sound my wife’s butt makes after I slap on it is music to my ears.

What are you working on at the moment? A new album full of FU FUn FUnk and a touch of Mr. O madness and Black FU badness.

Do you have already some goals for the next year? Yes, I try to set goals in the short and long term, it keeps one motivated and focused on achieving them.

Any last words? Support your artists by not downloading music for free, if you really love the music and enjoy what you hear no matter what it is please, consider making a contribution to that artist.  Not everybody makes money from advertising sponsorships, merchandising or concert tours.  If you are an artist making music please, don’t use cracked software support your software companies no matter if you think they’ve made enough money they work hard just like you do.

Many thanks for your time!
