Ich liebe Vintage Fashion! Immer wenn ich nostalgische Filme ansehe, liebe ich es zu sehen wie schick die Frauen angezogen sind, mit wunderschönen Kleidern, Perlenketten und aufwendigen Frisuren. Man hatte damals so viel Stil! Als ich also neulich zufällig von Fräulein Kleidsam gelesen hatte, einem Vintage Label aus Wien, konnte ich nicht widerstehen sie nach einem Interview zu fragen….
How important is fashion for you- and in general for life?
„ Fashion is not only a question of the clothes. Fashion has something to do with ideas and the sense of life, hence, of how we live.“ Fräulein Kleidsam is not only a vintage label, but there is a real person behind all this, because Fräulein Kleidsam is really who I am! Not only am I Fräulein Kleidsam, I also live like this with my own style that I want to convey to people. Every unique item that I have chosen myself is as unique as the future wearer of it. That is what is important to me. People that want to stand out of the crowd and that consider their individual sense of style as an expression of their personality. Those who have fun to combine different styles from different eras and are not depending on the trends of the big fashion chains, in order to at the end anyway look like everyone else! We live in a fast pace consumers society where new trends develop fast with the result that everyone on the street looks the same. But this is not what style is about! I want to quote the great Coco Chanel: „Fashion is fading, style never does!“ And that is how my customers are- people that don´t want to be common, but want to have style! Vintage is not the opposite of designer clothes, but the opposite of commonness!
Wie wichtig ist Fashion für dich- und fürs Leben allgemein?
“Mode ist nicht nur eine Frage der Kleidung. Mode hat etwas mit Ideen und einem Lebensgefühl zu tun, damit, wie wir leben.”Fräulein Kleidsam ist nicht nur ein Vintage Label, sondern dahinter steht eine reale Person, die Fräulein Kleidsam auch tatsächlich ist! Ich bin nicht nur Fräulein Kleidsam, ich lebe es auch in meinem eigenen Stil aus, den ich auch anderen vermitteln möchte. Jedes persönlich von mir ausgesuchte Einzelstück ist so individuell wie seine zukünftige Besitzerin. Das ist es, was mir wichtig ist. Menschen, die sich von der Masse absetzen möchten und ihren einzigartigen Modestil auch als Ausdrucksmittel ihrer Persönlichkeit sehen, die Spaß daran haben, verschiedene Stile aus unterschiedlichen Jahrzehnten zu kombinieren und nicht auf die Trends der großen Modeketten angewiesen sind, um letztendlich doch wieder auszusehen wie jeder andere! Wir leben in einer schnell lebenden Konsumgesellschaft, wo sich neue Trends rasch entwickeln und umgesetzt werden, mit dem Ergebnis, dass auf der Strasse alle gleich aussehen. Aber das ist es noch lange nicht, was einer Person Stil gibt! In diesem Zusammenhang möchte ich gerne die großartige Coco Chanel zitieren: “Mode ist vergänglich, Stil niemals!” Und genau das ist meine Klientel, Leute, die nicht gewöhnlich sein wollen, sondern Stil beweisen! Vintage ist nicht das Gegenteil von Designerware, sondern das Gegenteil von Gewöhnlichkeit!
When and how did you start „Fräulein Kleidsam“?
Dreams are the worse substitute for reality and experience! A certain feeling for fashion, my collecting passion and the love for old things brought me to start up my own vintage label „Fräulein Kleidsam“ with the intention to give the people in Vienna a better understanding of the vintage culture! A trip to NC- with all the great offers at the vintage shops – and the death of my grandma were the crucial motives to take charge of my own destiny and to hold on to my dream. When emptying out her flat, besides many childhood memories I found her wedding dress from the Thirties, wadded in a plastic bag inside the cupboard. Also all the other dresses, that we used to play princess with as a child, were still there. Some original dresses from the Twenties had been changed into carneval costumes, on others I found hot chocolate stains from the past years – a time when terms such as Art Deco or Art Nouveau were still strange to me! So this seemed like a suggestion of fate and I remembered my grandma´s words: „…life is too short, in order to do something that you don´t really want to do!“
Wie und wann hast du mit „Fräulein Kleidsam” begonnen?
Träume sind der schlechtere Ersatz für die Realität und ihre Erfahrungen! Ein gewisses Gespür für Mode, meine Sammelleidenschaft und die Liebe zu alten Sachen haben mich im Frühjahr 2010 veranlasst, meinen Traum zu verwirklichen und ich gründete mein eigenes Vintage Label “Fräulein Kleidsam”mit der Absicht den WienerInnen die Vintage Kultur näher zu bringen! Eine NYC Reise – mit all den tollen Angeboten an Vintage Läden – und der Tod meiner Oma waren die ausschlaggebenden Beweggründe mein Schicksal in die Hand zu nehmen und an meinem Traum festzuhalten. Beim Entleeren ihrer Wohnung fand ich neben vielen anderen Erinnerungen aus meiner Kindheit auch ihr Hochzeitskleid aus den 30er Jahren, zusammengeknüllt in einem Plastiksackerl ganz hinten im Kasten. Auch alle anderen Kleider, mit denen wir früher als Kind Prinzessin gespielt haben, waren noch vorhanden. Original Kleider der 20er Jahre hatte meine Oma teilweise zu Faschingskostümen verarbeitet, auf anderen bemerkte ich noch Kakaoflecken aus vergangenen Jahren, als mir Begriffe, wie Art Deco oder Jugendstil noch fremd waren! Ich empfand es damals als Wink des Schicksals und erinnerte mich an die Worte meiner Oma, die mir immer sagte: “…das Leben ist zu kurz, um nicht das zu tun, was man wirklich möchte!”

What fascinates you about Vintage fashion?
Vintage is not the opposite of designer clothes, but the opposite of commonness! The sustainable development can be noticed in today´s generation and of course with the people from Vienna as well – and this creates new trends and gives a whole new glamour to the vintage scene. Individuals from all countries are creating an anti-trend towards the consumers society of mass production. Nowadays it is not only ambitious collectors that try to find hidden treasures, but also fashionistas, that are looking for clothes with character and patina- clothes with a past- that should be part of a fashion-conscious person. It is about quality and originality again. Of course the vintage trend is the opposite pole of the disposable society. More than ever the sense of style is popular and also young people are more into sustainability and want to go their own way! My personal fascination for it is hard to describe. It is a mixture of clothes with history, the expression of individualism, my preference of fashion from the past decades and the feeling to be a woman, that was being shown a lot more through the fashion in the past compared to nowadays, where trainers and baggy pullovers have obliterate differences between men and woman and a society that is characterized by androgyny.

Nein, leider gibt es kein online portal, wo man auch einkaufen kann, aber ich werde einen shop bei dawanda einrichten, wo das möglich ist!
Was fasziniert dich an Vintage Mode?
Vintage ist nicht das Gegenteil von Designerware, sondern das Gegenteil von Gewöhnlichkeit! Diese nachhaltige Entwicklung ist bei der heutigen Generation und natürlich auch bei den Wienerinnen zu beobachten und setzt neue Trends, die der Vintage Szene einen neuen Glanz verleihen. Individualisten aus allen Ländern bestimmen einen Gegentrend zu der Konsumgesellschaft der Massenwaren. Es sind heutzutage nicht nur mehr ambitionierte Sammlerinnen, die nach verborgenen Schätzen stöbern, sondern auch Fashionistas, die Kleidung mit Charakter und Patina suchen – Kleider mit Vergangenheit – die einfach zur Garderobe modebewusster Menschen gehört. Man setzt bewusst wieder auf Qualität und Originalität. Natürlich ist der Vintage Trend ein Gegenpol zu der Wegwerfgesellschaft. Mehr denn je ist ein Gespür für Stil gefragt und auch junge Leute setzen immer verstärkter auf Nachhaltigkeit und sind bereit eigene Wege zu gehen! Meine persönliche Faszination ist schwer zu beschreiben, es ist eine Mischung aus Kleidung mit Geschichte, Individualismus, den man damit ausdrückt, meine Vorliebe für die Mode aus vergangenen Jahrzehnten und das Gefühl Frau zu sein, das sich früher viel eindeutiger in der Mode widergespiegelt hat als heute, wo Turnschuhe und “Schlabberpullis”, die Grenzen zwischen den Geschlechtern verwischen und die Gesellschaft stark von Androgynie geprägt ist!
Do you have a style icon?
Style is not something that you can learn, either you have it or you don´t. As a child you are being influenced by your mum, as a teenager you have your role models and as a young woman you orient yourself by magazines and from the age of 30 the confident woman should have found her own style and no style icon is being needed anymore! And because Fräulein Kleidsam has passed the age of 30 already, naturally she doesn´t have one anymore!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
To have my own shop would be great! And if I would have some support that would be even greater, because being a sole trader I do all on my own, from being the cleaner to the press officer, and sometimes it is quite difficult to accomodate these number of things! A dream of Fräulein Kleidsam is the expansion of product line concerning beauty products! But in any case I will do everything to establish the brand name so that Fräulein Kleidsam is not only known by vintage fans.
Hast du eine Stil Ikone?
Stil ist etwas, das man nicht lernen kann, entweder man hat einen, oder nicht! Als Kind ist es die Mama, die einem prägt, als Teenager hat man Idole, als junge Frau orientiert man sich an Trends, die die Modebranche in diversen Magazinen vorgibt und ab 30 sollte eine selbstbewusste Frau ihren eigenen Stil bereits gefunden haben und keinen Stilikonen mehr brauchen! Und da Fräulein Kleidsam die 30 bereits überschritten hat, hat sie selbstverständlich keine mehr!
Wo siehst du dich in 5 Jahren?
Ein eigenen Geschäft wäre natürlich schon sehr fein! Wenn es dann auch noch Unterstützung gäbe, wäre das noch feiner, weil als Einzelunternehmerin bin ich von der Putzfrau bis zur Pressefrau alles in einem, was manchmal ein bisschen schwierig ist, alles unter einen Hut zu bringen! Und ein Traum von Fräulein Kleidsam ist vielleicht eine Erweiterung im Sortiment, was auch beauty Produkte betrifft! Aber auf jeden Fall werde ich alles daran setzten, dass der Markenname etabliert wird und Fräulein Kleidsam nicht nur mehr Vintagefans ein Begriff ist!

Your 3 fashions tips?
Only the person wearing it, gives character to the garment! Fräulein Kleidsam doesn´t have a do´s and don´t list! The most important thing is to feel comfortable, authenticity and to have fun in fashion. If you combine those three things that is the best and most individual tip someone can give you, because everyone is different and for everyone fashion has a different importance in life! No matter what garment, if there is no character wearing it, and if it is not being presented in an authentic way and suitable to the person, then the most beautiful piece can appear boring!

Freunde und Familie, Hoffnung, Kreativitat, Verlässlichkeit und natürlich meine beiden Katzen!

Erst die Person dahinter verleiht einem Kleidungsstück Charakter! Fräulein Kleidsam hat keine do´s and don´t Liste! Das wichtigste ist immer der Wohlfühlcharakter, Authentzität und Spaß an der Mode. Wenn man diese drei Dinge vereint, ist es auf jeden Fall immer der beste und individuellste Tipp, da jeder Mensch anders ist und Mode auch für jeden einen anderen Stellenwert im Leben darstellt! Egal welches Kleidungsstück, wenn kein Charakter dahinter steht, es nicht authentisch und Typ gerecht präsentiert wird, kann das schönste Teil einfach nur langweilig wirken!
