Exhibition Isabelle Huppert – Women of Many Faces

On 8th October 2011, there was an open talk held at GoEun Museum of Photography, New Building in Busan which was a part of BIFF’s program. French actress Isabelle Huppert acted in Korean movie director Hong Sangsoo’s new film along with other Korean actors/actressed include Yoon Yeo-Jeong, Yoo Jun-Sang and Jeong Yu-Mi. There was an exhibition held at GoEun Museum of Photography, ‘Isabelle Huppert, Woman of Many Faces’ which contains photographic portraits of Isabelle Huppert by more than 70 Artists from all over the world.

Isabelle is an icon of French cinema who has appeared in more than 80 films, she has won the best actress award twice in Cannes for Violette Noziere (1978) directed by Claude Chabrol and also for La Pianiste (2001) directed by Michael Haneke. She also won it three times in Venice Film Festival, for Une Affaire de Femmes (1988), La Ceremonie (1995) both by Claude Chabrol and a special Gold Lion for Gabrielle (2005) by Patrick Chereau. She has been names jury president for 2009 Cannes film festival.

The exhibition Isabelle Huppert: Woman of Many Faces shows photos and video portraits of her creates by more than 70 artists with varied and style, and it first proposed to pay homage to Huppert and her films at Museum Art’s sister museum , PS1 Contemporary Arts Centre in New York. Artists featured in the exhibition include the great photographers Richard Avedon, Edouard Boubat, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Bruce Davidson, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Helmut Newton, Juergen Tellerer, etc. Visitors can share an interesting experience witnessing an actress, Isabelle Huppert, with many faces as a movie star and also as ‘herself’ in her daily life through her every corner of her face interpreted by each artist’s own style and vision across the time line from her teen life up to now.

The show initiated by the MoMA/PS1 in 2005 has been presented in over seven institutions in Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Tokyo and Seoul. More than 600,000 visitors have visited the show so far.
