“Nothing reminds me more of the freedom of my childhood than the feeling of being able to create something through the scope of my camera.” says Christoph Schaller. And you can feel that in his images and fashion short films. You are enchanted like you have just come back from a journey.

As a matter of fact the native German, who has attended an English boarding school for a couple of years, has only been taking photographs for a short time, but it was time enough to spark of his passion for it. And in the meantime he already  had publications in magazines and newspapers such as the Spook Magazine, the Süddeutschen Zeitung and the Berliner Zeitung. We are pleased to ask a few questions to the young photographer and show some of his expressive images to you…

  „Nichts erinnert mich so an die Freiheit meiner Kindheit wie das Gefühl etwas durch den Sucher meiner Kamera zu erschaffen“ meint Christoph Schaller. Und das fühlt man in seinen Bilder und Fashion Kurzfilmen. Man ist ein bisschen wie verzaubert nach einer Reise. Eigentlich hat der gebürtige Deutsche, der einige Jahre eine englische Boarding Schule besuchte, erst vor kurzem mit dem Fotografieren begonnen, aber dies war Zeit genug um seine Leidenschaft dafür zu entfachen und mittlerweile waren seine Arbeiten schon in Publikationen wie Spook Magazine, Süddeutsche Zeitung und Berliner Zeitung zu sehen.  Wir freuen uns dem jungen Photographen ein paar Fragen zu stellen und euch einige seiner aussdruckstarken Bildern zu zeigen…

Photography means to me…
Dreams, love, youth. Nothing reminds me more of the freedom of my childhood than the feeling of being able to create something through the scope of my camera. I love to let an image emerge in my mind and then be able to convert this into reality. I think that photography can communicate feelings like no other medium.

I  am blogging because…
Because like this I am constantly improving. Thus I am posting almost all the images on my blog I am having a constant dialogue with my readers that I really enjoy.

Nothing inspires me more than…
Unconventional beauty and nature. I do look through a lot of books and magazines but my biggest inspiration is my surrounding and people. Furthermore I get inspired by feelings. With all the pressure and commitments onto social norms I have a strong desire for freedom, that has led to the creation of many of my photos.

Fotografie bedeutet für mich…
Traum, Liebe, Jugend. Nichts erinnert mich so an die Freiheit meiner Kindheit wie das Gefühl etwas durch den Sucher meiner Kamera zu erschaffen. Ich liebe es, ein Bild in meinem Kopf entstehen zu lassen und dieses dann in die Realität umzusetzen. Ich denke, Fotografie kann Gefühle vermitteln wie kein anderes Medium.

Ich blogge weil…
Ich mich dadurch konstant verbessert habe und es immer noch tue. Dadurch, dass ich beinahe alle Fotos, die ich mache auf dem Blog poste stehe ich in einem konstanten Dialog mit meiner Lesern, der mir sehr viel Spaß macht.

Nichts inspiriert mich so sehr wie…
Unkonventionelle Schönheit und Natur. Ich blättere zwar durch viele Bücher und Magazine, aber meine größte Inspirationsquelle ist meine Umwelt und die Menschen. Außerdem schöpfe ich Inspiration aus Gefühlen. Durch viel Druck und Gebundenheit an gesellschaftliche Normen empfinde ich einen wahnsinnigen Freiheitsdrang, der mich zu vielen meiner Fotos bewegt hat.

Most of the time I can be found…
Either hidden behind my iMac, where I am struggling through university documents, edit current images and plan new ones or in the kitchen of my flatshare. I live together with one of the guys that I brought the the film project “Wild Eyes” into being. We also spend hours with concocting new stuff ( or when nothing precedes we can be found in front of the playstation) Other than that I spend lots of time outside, the Munich Gärtnerplatz is my favourite.

In 5 years I see myself…
Hopefully not as a business administrator within the management area of a company (which is what I actually study) It is my dream to become a photographer and travel a lot, meet interesting people and experience other cultures. I would love to live in Australia, take an endless amount of pictures and live a life without worries and full of freedom and love.

Meistens trifft man mich…
Entweder versteckt hinter meinem iMac, wo ich mich durch Uni Unterlagen kämpfe, aktuelle Bilder bearbeite und neue Fotos plane oder in unserer WG Küche. Ich wohne mit einem der Jungs zusammen, mit denen ich das Film Projekt „Wild Eyes“ in’s Leben gerufen habe. Der Rest ist meistens auch nicht fern und wir verbringen Stunden damit, neues auszuhecken (oder wenn nichts vorangeht zockend vor der Playstation). Ansonsten bin ich ziemlich viel draußen unterwegs, der Münchner Gärtnerplatz ist mein Favorit.

In 5 Jahren seh ich mich…
Hoffentlich nicht als BWL’er im Management Bereich eines Unternehmens (wie das mein Studiengang ja eigentlich suggerieren würde). Es ist mein absoluter Traum, Fotograf zu werden und viel um die Welt zu kommen, außergewöhnliche Menschen kennenzulernen und Kulturen zu erleben. Am liebsten würde ich in Australien wohnen, unendlich viele Bilder machen und einen Lebensstil führen, der frei von Sorge und voller Freiheit und Liebe ist.
