Úna Burke AW12 “Overcome”

Una Burke AW12

We have a thing for Úna Burke because to create something unique in a world where almost everything has been there already, is truly difficult, but – looking at her work- still possible. And we love her latest AW12 collection Overcome!  Inspired by her strong and ambivalent relationship to the element of water “powerful enough to both give life and cause devastation”,  she has created spiralling and spiking forms for sculptural belts, jewellery, handbags and abstract body pieces. Her colour inspiration of Prune, Red, Gold and Green came from a  visit to the  National Maritime Museum, where she was fascinated by a gilded barge that was commissioned by Prince Frederick in 1732. And just like the perception of this gilded barge, – we think there is also something pompous and proud about the pieces of Ùna Burke…

Didn’t Iris van Herpen made a collection based on the water too?… Some elements in Una’s collection quite remind me of Iris’s collection… suspicious…
