Forss “Ecclesia” at the Berghain

Well, if you live in Berlin then today either you are the kind of person that can´t wait to be in the middle of all the demos going on, or you stick to the relaxed version of the day and you hole up back home. Anyhow, for either of those types tomorrow night be a good time to have a blast time going out. So what´s going on? I anyway got an invitation to go to the opening performance of FORSS “ECCLESIA” at the Berghain, where the creator, founder and CTO of SoundCloud and electronica artist Eric Wahlforss will give us a preview of his album Ecclesia coming out on the 12^th of June and I am pretty curious about this. Not only has there been a timeframe of nine years from his last album, but it is also an audio-visual album which means it is a combination of electronic music and an app for the iPad. In his press release I read that the reason for making an app, was that when he initially wanted to release the album the iPad had been released as well, so he took this as a kind of sign to create something different. Talking about signs – maybe it was also because of a sign given to him that he has created an album sounding like you are in the middle of an awesome Holy-Mass-electronic-music-event. The idea of this album was  “to recreate the essence of what a church is via the medium of electronic music”. Also very interesting is how he actually made the music- he basically “used recordings of strings, choirs, organs and ambient noise from church concerts which have been cut up into fragments and rearranged into a new mosaic of music, and recordings of wooden, stone and metal objects which make up the beats and percussion.” For the app he used the skills of Leo Lass, of the Viennese audio-visual team Depart and CGI artist of app developer team Untouch.FM, Marcel Schobel, and those two will also be responsible for the audio-visual performance ( that is a translation of the app) at the Berghain tomorrow. And I have to say great choice of location for something like that. So let´s see if I feel blessed and enlightened after tomorrow´s event…
