“A good image is more than just about expression, it has to carry a thought behind it, the way it was created, a soul if you will.” explains Kelser Tran to us when we ask him about what a good image is. Well, we have spend several hours scrolling down the blog of this marvelous Los Angeles based photographer – looking at all those images full of rawness, wildness, sensuality, beauty – and yes, full of soul!

Your images are incredible. Passionate. Raw. Wild and natural. How much of your own personality is in your work?

Thanks! I think my creative side is Raw, Wild and Natural, my personality is… well natural haha. People are often surprised how laid back I am in person.

You used to only shoot digital and using photoshop to add analogue effects to it, right? So how did it happen that you suddenly took an analogue camera after all?

With the exception of grain, most analogue effects I did with digital are straight out of camera. I was never a big fan of adding in light bleeds, or color gradients with post. I’ve experimented with doing it in post in the past on a few shoots, but scrapped it. The majority of my inspiration has always been film. So making the transition into shooting more film was an easy one. I guess you can’t truly appreciate analogue until you shoot with it.

What is a good image in your eyes- what does it have to have?

There are many features that I look for in a photo, but mainly I would say it would have to be thought provoking. A good image is more than just about expression, it has to carry a thought behind it, the way it was created, a soul if you will. I always enjoy hearing people say, including myself… “I don’t know what is it about this photo, but I love it.”

You have so many beautiful women in front of your lense. How hard is it not to fall in love with each of them;)?

haha, its pretty easy actually. I just focus more on creating art, than taking them out on a date :)

What makes someone beautiful?
God.

Is there anyone that you would really love to shoot with?

Anja Rubik is on top of my list. Of course there is a big list that follows with it :)

So many people ( including us) admire your work! Who are the photographers you admire yourself?

Off the top of my head I would say Greg Kadel, Guy Aroch, Peter Lindbergh

Where do you see yourself in a few years?

Retired? haha j/k. Traveling – Definitely made that a goal of mine. Not just in the states but overseas. I always wanted to do shoots on location in Bali, or other exotic locations.

The most important thing in life is?

In a nutshell… Family, God, Health
