Sónar festival celebrates 20th anniversary

CultureEventsMusic

It’s almost unbelievable how quickly time goes by… It´s going to be 20 years since the first Sónar festival in Barcelona happened. During all those years this festival has presented a considerable amount of talented artists and bands. Also, Sónar has been able to expand its concept to other parts of our world – places like Sao Paolo, Tokyo, Osaka or Reykjavík. Like every year, in 2013 the festival program will be divided into a Day and Night part. The Line ups of Sónar festivals are always very colorful, so everyone can find his thing.

With celebrating their 20th anniversary, there will be some changes. After 19 years at the CCCB, the MACBA and the surrounding area, the festival is moving its daytime program to the Fira Montjuic area in Placa d’Espanya, an emblematic location in the city. The 4 stage concept of SonarVillage, SonarHall, SonarDôme and SonarComplex will be kept – furthermore, the capacity of all places will be increased! Plus, this new location is significantly nearer to Sónar by Night (its place remains the same). With the festival’s shuttle buses, you can get from one place to another in about 10 minutes! More about location & maps here.

Sónar+D. – another exciting change!
Sónar+D represents the evolution of the festival’s professional and new media areas, which represents a series of activities based around the same central theme: making the relationship between creativity, technology, mobility, innovation and business more visible and accessible. Sónar+D platform will offer workshops and hackathons, interactive installations, product demos and presentations, services and entrepreneurial initiatives in the field of creativity, technology and music. Attendees will also have a chance to participate on conferences and meetings with the biggest names of Sónar line up, as well as see live shows reflecting the culture of innovation through the use of new interactive devices. More about Sónar+D here.

Sónar is special. Sónar is something more than other summer festivals. Personally, I think one of the reasons for this incredible festival experience is because it’s in Barcelona. There is nothing better than besides enjoying good music to explore the beauty of this city as well. And relaxing or dancing on beaches is just another bonus. So, come & celebrate with Sónar its anniversary. You won’t regret.

Juliette Cassidy´s work fascinates us. It´s so raw and pure, yet so strong and capturing, that you just get soaked into her standstills that are fashion and a showcast of human emotions at the same time. Originally the artist is from Barcelona but has spend the past 7 years travelling around, with making stops in Mexico City, Boston, Miami and has currently found her home in L.A. Yesterday we already showed you one of her great series. Today we have another beautiful one – “Meeting in the midst of sunny California…” Model is beauty Camila Saldarriaga and the clothes are by LiTTLE RAMONAS.

” I like creating a beautiful and enigmatic world for my pictures but there is another dark side that I like to photograph as well. Sometimes, my fashion series are starring by real women with attitude. I call them “The Divas”. The decadent beauty I see on them is what attracts me most. I think my condition of street photographer is what makes me introduce this dark side in my fashion works.”

Garnica – Love Someone

Music

screenshot-02

In Barcelona not only the sun shines brighter than in other places, also lots of good music is coming from there at the moment. Like the debut LP of Rafael Garnica who started as a drummer in the early 90´s. A lot has changed since then and fortunately he found his soul for electronic music. “Fool Again” (out on Galaktika Records) is a great mix of melodic, nostalgic and optimistic vibes with a fine balance between pop and underground deep house. And here ist the first dropped out track including a nice video of  ”Love Someone” directed by Luis Antonio Delgado.

videoclip premiere: “Silly Girl Meets Silly Boy”

Some time ago we presented you an interview with Barcelona based musician Fernando Lagreca with his really cool hymn “Silly Girl Meets Silly Boy”, a song from his “Childhood is All We Have” album released on Irregular label. A song you just have to sing and shake along.

“Fernando Lagreca is one of those people who kept an integrity and personality for an entire life… his music too. Year after year this Uruguayan of heart has managed to capture album by album, his delightful ability blending synths, organic melodies and warmest vocals. His compositions contain a wide palette of tempting sounds: new wave, chillpop, italo-disco or ambient. All blended into something quite unique, close and beautiful.”

And now we have the videoclip premiere of it for you,  that is produced by MissAlabama and a team full of talented, lovely people. The story in this video clip describes how a very young couple is able to reach the absolute insane limits for that thing we call love. Where is the line between madness and true feelings?

Ferran Cubedo captures the details. The details of life, of feelings and nature. “I am always searching for the “beauty” within everything and I feel that there is always more than the standard point of view of this world.” In our interview he tells us about the perfect picture and why he loves Barcelona so much.

Describe yourself with two sentences.

I’m a 34 years old Creative director from Barcelona. My daily routine is working for brands, advertisment, branding, web, and all this stuff. I see myself as a curious person that needs to constantly question the status quo and the “reality”. I am always searching for the “beauty” within everything and I feel that there is always more than the standard point of view of this world.

What is the perfect picture for you?

I think there is no perfect picture as a standard alone. We need to realize that pictures are viewed not as they are, but as we are. So the place and moment I live in is very important. The perfect picture for me now is probably not that perfect the following year, and the next decade. For me the perfect picture for every moment, is the picture that connects with my emotions, because I see myself reflected or challenged within my visual culture. And it makes me go forward in the knowledge and roots of myself. Beauty within the picture is also very important to me, I think is a force that allows me not to stay quiet, but move forward and continue exploring.

What does photography mean to you?

It’s something that I actually can’t describe in detail, because I’m also in the process of knowing the meaning of my work, and that is what makes it so addictive to me. I’m chasing in finding myself and my point of view or inner vision. Another important thing is that this is a way I found to contribute to others, with my understanding of the world, or challenging them to question the things they see. I think it is a process of learning and showing this… maybe about the meaning why we are here in this world, the evolution.

The best things about Barcelona?

I’ve travelled to Tokio, China, Berlin, London…and find Barcelona the best place for living in a city. Good weather, entrepreneur feeling. Barcelona has also a very special inheritance in arts and design, and this is something you can feel in every detail and place in this city, so it is very inspiring.

Where do you see yourself in a few years?

I see myself travelling and looking forward to know more and more about my journey within photography and visual arts. But sometimes I see myself living in a small island close to here, called Menorca. It is an incredible place to live far away from the city.

The most important thing in life is?

Love. Because it gives us (without knowing it) the energy to do the things we need in order to evolve.
