This is a book full of awesomeness. Every side spreads the magic about the liveliness, the tumult of a fashion show. Untamend and raw. The Photodiary takes you on a journey about emotional, hectic situations, scenes and moments – on the catwalk, backstage or fitting rooms. A few celebrities included.

Jackie Taylor spotted on Berlin streets

I met Jackie Taylor yesterday on my way to the Warschauer Strasse station and even though I was in a bit of a rush, I couldn´t help asking her if I might take a picture. Jackie has just returned from a trip to L.A, where she also got that very cool Poncho piece. And I love those colourful shoes she is wearing. Originally she is from Ireland but after being in Berlin for quite some time, this has become her second home. Her looks reveal that she is quite an artistic person, and after researching on her website that she gave to me, I figured out that she is doing Costume Styling and has already been working on several interesting, creative projects. And in case you wonder why someone is wearing a hat in May – yes, it was still pretty chilly yesterday in Berlin.

Swim Deep und The 1975 in Berlin

Swim Deep_Berlin 2013 (1)

The Berlin men´s wear label SOPOPULAR presented their new AW13/14 lookbook some time ago and shows their rebellious site. Designer Daniel Blechman created with „The Wild One“ a great and youthful collection with straight, classic cuts in subdued colors and an unconventional mix of patterns and materials. ”My inspiration were the world famous movie Rebel of the hollywood classics like Marlon Brando in The Wild One or Walther Hills in The Warriors. Alone, they are strong, together they are unbeatable ” We love!

Giantree Concert Berlin 2013 (1)

“We all yell, we all yell, yeah yeah yeah..” klingt es immer noch in meinem Ohr, nach dem wunderbaren Konzert von Giantree gestern im Privatclub in Berlin. Der vielschichtige und starke Sound von Giantree ist mitreißend jung, frisch und deep und lässt einen die Welt um sich herum vergessen. Und es war großartig die österreichische Band, die schon seit Monaten bei mir rauf und runter läuft mal endlich live zu sehen! Awesome guys and come back soon!

“We are young, we are young, yeah yeah yeah..” I can still hear the sound after yesterday´s wonderful concert of Giantree at the Privatclub in Berlin. The eclectic and strong sound of Giantree is powerfully young, fresh and deep and let´s you forget the world around you. And it was just great to finally see the Austrian band live, whose sound has been amongst one of my favourite ones for the past months! Awesome guys and come back soon!

Submit your film to Berlin fashion Film Festival

Events

bildschirmfoto_30

To be able to feel alive, I need to feel emotions. Emotions that are being triggered by moments, and small things like sunrays, a smile from someone sitting across to you in the subway after a long, hard day at work. Or by music. And of course by films.

So I am looking forward to the 2013 edition of Berlin fashion Film Festival approaching – the final screening  and awarding will take place on the 4th of July during Berlin Fashion Week – but before that it´s your time to submit, submit, submit. The ultimately fashion film –  be cool, natural, edgy – suprise us, be creative and make us feel something.

Submissions have been extended until May 15, 2013.

The outstanding judges, partners and curators of the 2013 edition of the Berlin fashion Film Festival have been confirmed and are now being announced. The curating team is composed by the monthly cinematic experience Berlin Film Society, the events management company and showroom FIER management, the fashion film agency Furore Film, and the London College of Fashion.

The finalists will be judged by an international jury according to different categories, formed by: filmmaking Alexandliane for Best Cinematography, makeup artist and beauty expert Boris Entrup for Best Makeup and Hair, international star DJ HELL for Best Music, Final Cut editor James Rose for Best Editing, creative director Michael Schachtner for Best Idea/Script, Vogue Italia’s senior editor Sara Maino for Best Fashion, and international Production Designer Steve Summersgill for Best Production Design.

A talk with Anh Dinh

Fashion

Cevan Saglam (3)

“Style in my opinion always requires a certain amount of strong attitude. Many people can combine cool outfits but only few can perform them authentically.” tells me Anh Dinh, who I briefly met at the opening of the Monki store in Berlin and whose sense of style attracted my attention.

So I figured out that she studies fashion design at the Esmod in Berlin, is doing an apprenticeship at PurPur Styling and has her own brilliant blog called Tha Darlinh, that I want to introduce you today…

Your blog is “A personal online space created to share all the DARLINHs in my life. DARLINHs are things I love – mostly addressed to fashion, inspiring people, places and moments.” What do people, places and moments have to have to inspire you?

There is not really a pattern to my inspirations. I go through my life trying to take in as much of my environment as possible. Sometimes there are those special people, places and moments that touch me just a little bit more. But so much I can say: I am a fan of slight weirdness, perfect harmony is not for me.

Who´s style do you really admire?

I really admire Avril Lavigne’s style. Not the way that I would imitate her style but in the way she appears. Style in my opinion always requires a certain amount of strong attitude. Many people can combine cool outfits but only few can perform them authentically.

What brought you to Berlin? And what are the things you like most about the city?

Well, my parents brought me to Berlin (haha). I was born here, then we lived for four years in a town called Senftenberg in Brandenburg but came back to Berlin soon after. And I could not be happier about it. I cannot imagine growing up anywhere else. I love the ambitious artistic vibe of the city and it’s citizens. Everyone seems to work hard on dreams and aims, but on the first sunny day after a long winter people take a break, relax and soak in the long awaited warmth – even if it is just for a few minutes. Best thing to watch in Berlin.

Your parents are from Vietnam, how much of their culture has shaped your personality?

Hard to say, it is still shaping. My parents passed me a few typical Vietnamese habits. For example I always take too much food and snacks on longer trips although there are enough possibilities to buy something along the way. From my Vietnam trips I learnt to always quietly observe first and then to act thoughtful. But all in all Berlin definitely shaped me the most. Without it’s creative streak I probably would not find the encouragement to follow my fashion dreams.

You are a beautiful girl, what does beauty mean to you?

Oh thanks for the compliment! I feel beautiful when I do not have to put much make-up on and feel happy about how I look. And I think that feeling of happiness and confidence makes one beautiful.

Where do you see your blog and yourself in a few years?

Honestly, I have no idea. In a few years I will have started and finished my fashion design study at ESMOD Berlin and will be in front of the big question which path I will choose next. Wishful thinking, my destiny will come naturally – maybe I will become a fashion designer, a stylist, maybe even the next big blogger star… no let’s stay real. I will probably have the first actual problems of my life. I am only 17 right now, I think I will have changed a lot in a few years. I wonder what I will say when I re-read this interview in remote future. Will I laugh about my young self? Or will I give myself a pat on the back?

The most important thing in life?

Being happy with my life. What I need for that? The people I love and a job I can be passionate about – oh and chocolate!

Swim Deep – Live In Berlin soon!

Music

SD---Press-Shot-4

Last year around this time we introduced you to this new, cool band from the UK – Swim Deep! Already the name lets you divine the musical depths that you are about to enter. Back then they described themselves as “twenty four hour jokers” and they told us that “our music means to us what it does to you”. In the meantime the guys are having heaps of success – well deserved of course, and boy, was I excited to see their name up in the Comet Club in Berlin, where they will give a concert on the 8th of May 2013! So get your tickets and get ready for a great concert evening! Let´s all swim deep for an evening!

A talk with Nora Hollstein

Photography

Nora-Hollstein-(1)

“I like thinking about witches being real and how that cute guy from across the street is definitely going to make a great romantic gesture to me because it’s love at first sight. I’m really drifting into those daydreams sometimes and just enjoy them.”

I think I can relate so much of the work of Nora Hollstein because I am a dreamer myself. And you can somehow get lost within her work that radiates a sort of spiritual calmness…

Your images somehow transmit a very spiritual, dreamy and calm feeling, how much of yourself is in your work?

A lot! I’m a very out-of-this-world person. I like thinking about witches being real and how that cute guy from across the street is definitely going to make a great romantic gesture to me because it’s love at first sight. I’m really drifting into those daydreams sometimes and just enjoy them.

What´s the fascination for you to do collages?

I guess I like it because you can take an ordinary picture and create something special and beautiful with it. And it also helps me to keep being creative. Sometimes when I work a lot I just don’t have the time or motivation to take photos. So I take old pictures from a holiday for instance and work with those.

You are inspired by?

All kinds of stuff, sometimes it’s just my mood. Can be a beautiful girl or boy I saw on the street, my gorgeous flatmate Marie, a cool outfit, a song that I listened to, a movie I saw, different materials, beautiful rooms, beautiful food, minimalism or complete kitsch overload. It always changes.

Last time you laughed, last time you cried?

Telling one of my best friends on the phone that I’m busy busy. Which was funny because i’m probably the laziest person on earth. So we both laughed. Last time I cried was yesterday, because I have a cold and that always makes me sentimental. So I guess I cried about something random like I have no chocolate left or no one is making me soup.

Where do you want your life journey to go within the next years?

I wanna get into university, travel a lot, move to England maybe and one day publish my own magazine.

The most important thing for you in life is?

My dad, my sister and my best friends (especially Lici) who I can count on, who never judge me or put me under pressure and who are always there for me.

Steaming Satellites – concert review

Music

06

Sweatshirt – In A Distant Light

Music

S W E A T S H I R T (Berlin)

Berlin duo SWEATSHIRT who were on our favorite playlist last summer are back with another sweet and wonderful track. “In A Distant Light” is an easy song which  evokes the feeling of spring, sun and love at the end of a long winter. “There’s always music in me - The gardens and the trees - When you come unwind me - The passion you might see….” On repeat!
