Ok, I have to admit it’s been a while since I have been to this club and I was absolutely excited about this gig. I know it’s little bit weird of me to have strange feelings and lower expectations, but there are still few places in our little country where good promoters try to do something different. One of them is definitely MeetFactory. Last Friday this place hosted Ninja Tune envoy – Mr. Daedelus.
It was one of the first warm nights during the spring. I’m sure you know that feeling (esp. if you live around Czech, winters are quite long here you know)… Few clothes, good music in my player and off to the club. It didn’t surprise me at all that most of the visitors were sitting outside the club and enjoying that beautiful spring evening. But I felt a bit sad for the warm up DJs Global Optimistic. They played so well broken tunes, but for…well, 30 people only. I started to worried that it will be another party with interesting foreigners guest but with VERY few people…
At about 11 p.m. I stopped worrying about the people and having some Cuba Libre drinks at the bar- just enjoying the moment. Global Optimistic left and I could feel the tension around. Suddenly people began to roll forward and I was wondering where the hell they suddenly all came from! Ok, it certainly was time to catch a good spot with a good sound. My eyes were all fixed onto the stage where a gentleman had already taken his position -, dressed in a dandy suit while greeting the audience. And suddenly this whole place just exploded from the energy. Everyone screaming and whistling although he didn’t even started to play. Fascinating.
And then it finally began…Big walls of mirrors behind the dandy (called Archimedes btw) were starting to move and reflecting lights placed on stage back to the audience. Daedelus was standing in front of his modest equipment consisting of an Apple computer and a controller (which he made and patented) and lifted his hand up to the rhythm. People still screaming. The sound was perfect and dynamic and I could feel how the joy spills all over my body. Daedelus began with quite a fast and deep sound and even so, the music story still culminated. I also really enjoyed his movements. Not only was he dressed like a dandy, he can also move very gracefully, almost like a virtuoso.
Time went pretty fast. The pace still accelerating. The last 20 minutes were equal to a sound apocalypse. It was not my cup of tea, but the crowd reacted in an enthusiastic way. And suddenly, it was over! Daedelus bowed and left. But people were not satisfied yet, I could tell. Persistent and loud applause finally forced him to get back to give an encore. Again, it was deep and wild and I LOVED it.
After the show, I was hanging out outside to get some fresh air. And I wasn’t alone… the warm night attracted almost everyone to stay outside. Poor Forma DJ, who continued after Daedelus. Although I’m sure he played well, I stayed outside and soaked up impressions… Like I said in my introduction, it was a truly exciting evening. Big THANKS to the Lunchmeat team who made this happen. And have made it so perfect.
