Events

mann_klam_bild

Nika Yumi by Jonas Saalbach

Music

Just as London to me is still the fashion capital, Berlin is still one of the places to be when it comes to electronic music. The young producer Jonas Saalbach, who plays solely live, has choosen Berlin as his adotpive home and is one of those names that you should remember as he is about to release his first EP Nika Yumi on the label Einmusika Recordings. So I have just turned on the first track Nika Yumi and I am somehow drifting away on a a very smooth, melancholical musical trip. Nice one!

Tony Andrews the funktion one boss raises an awareness for good audio quality

NIGHT AIR is an exceptional meeting for electronic music lovers which was established in cooperation with the prestigious music platform Red Bull Music Academy. The premiere party of NIGHT AIR / 01 will be held on Friday 18th January 2013 in Prague at the MeetFactory venue. During the late afternoon and night you can look forward to an extraordinary program!

It all starts at 5.30 pm with a lecture bloc given by the great Tony Andrews – the founder of legendary Funktion One  company, that for more than 20 years deals with the production and development of hi-quality sound systems. Also the late-afternoon program of NIGHT AIR will offer a very interesting lecture given by Tomas Hartl aka Elektrabel, who belongs to the group of the best Czech producers and djs. Tomas will shortly speak about various topics concerning music production, hardware, but also mastering and acoustics. Furthermore you will also briefly be introduced to the upcoming Red Bull Music Academy which will take a place in New York (28th April – 31st May 2013).

Tony Andrews : Tech Talk

And at about 8pm you should get ready for quality DJs and musical projects. So, let’s take a look closer on them!

CLUBROOT (UK)
The UK’s Daniel Richmond aka Clubroot who is considered to be an extremely talented producer will open the night. You can expect a highly emotive ambient with some sophisticated dubstep elements.

Clubroot’s mix for Electronic Music Explorations

JOSEF SEDLON (CZ)
One of the most important people within the Czech musical scene. Josef is a presenter, promoter and tireless booster of quality electronic music. No doubt that his set will guarantee a great musical experience!

DIOME (CZ)
Diome is not a newbie on the Czech scene. He has been performing on various events and festivals already since 1997. One of the most important moments for him was the participation in the Red Bull Music Academy in Dublin in 2000. Diome’s sets are a synonym for intelligent house or dreamy melodies.

DJ FACE (CZ)
Also known as Myclick, he has been writing for the Czech music site techno.cz for about 12 years. Myclick can be also heard on the Czech radio every 2 weeks, delivering the finest music. Face is a strictly “vinyl DJ” who usually sticks to nu-disco or deep house music. On NIGHT AIR he will play b2b with Diome and I’m sure it’s gonna be a blast :-)

EVA PORATING (CZ)
Originally from Slovakia, she later settled in Brno and now lives in Prague. You may remember Eva from our good bye summer” podcast. Her popularity is still growing and I think she definitely deserves it!

DJ MOORIS (CZ, Shotgun festival)
Daniel Moravek aka Mooris – founder & dramaturge of Shotgun festival. Daniel will present a diverse set of house, techno or bass music waves.

Several years of preparation culminated in late 2012 when FREMENI presented his premiere live set. From acid, over micro-rave to techno, FREMENI represents a very exciting Czech live act, that is definitely worth to be seen and heard!

LA BELLA VIDA DJS (CZ)
It has been 2 years already since they came up with the idea of summer open-air sessions on various locations in Prague. Spontaneous and enjoyable outdoor events with no entry, with lots of local djs acompanied with a quality sound system.

WILD at HEART presents Tobi Neumann und Onur Özer

Events

Den Auftakt zu der viel versprechenden Event Reihe “Wild at Heart” machen die beiden Cocoon Residents Tobi Neumann und Onur Özer.

Fauna: D(R)ONE

Music

Children, it’s Halloween and I shall tell you a tale… “Once upon a time in the future, a nameless hydra ate Enya. As punishment, it is sent to hell and sings Satan a song about its life.” That’s also how Vienna-based upcoming label MOUN10 sums up its protégé’s newest album release. The album, named „D(r)one“, of also Vienna-based artist Fauna comes along as the bitter-sweetest of all Halloween candies we got. Dark drugged-up beats and spellbinding synths are paired with hauntingly beautiful vocals creating something fiercely hypnotic and entirely absorbing. Everything in here is dark and menacing in equal measures, yet tinged with hope and fragile light in each tune. It’s a dark star rising, so don’t be afraid and have a listen.

The album “D(r)one” has been released on MOUN10 October 31th. It’s available on CD, cassette and digital.

A talk with Ricardo Tobar

Music

It´s been a while since we last spoke to Ricardo Tobar! Back then we were talking to him about his marvelous release -El Sunset and now we have found the opportunity to speak to him about his latest EP release Together/Teenager – which has captured all our senses and delighted our musical heart. Definitely something we can´t help shaking to! So we wanted to know from Ricardo how life has been treating him in the past years, what inspired him for the latest EP and what the last song was that he has shaked to himself…

Hey the last time we spoke to you was in 2008 -a  pleasure to have you here again! How are you doing? Has life been treating you well in the past years?

Has been quite a fun ride, I can’t complain really. My life has changed drastically after that interview I think.

So your new EP has been released – Together/Teenager. What have been your main inspirations for creating it?

I don’t know really. I think I get inspired by everything that’s going on around me, but I can’t point just one thing

Who has inspired you most in your life?

I think music is my greatest inspiration, just to listen to it and try to do something good on my own.

How do you feel when you listen to a ready piece of yours? Are you critical with yourself?

I’m very critical with my own stuff, and it keeps getting worse. In fact i think it’s one of my biggest problems at the time to finish a song. I make 100 songs, but just like 2 make the final cut.

On your blog you wrote that you had stopped remixing for a while – because you were so busy with other things or there was another reason to that?

Well, making a remix takes a lot of time and it’s always there in your head because you have to finish it, it’s not like my own song that I can say: “ok it doesn’t work, I will not finish this.” Probably you can do that, but I don’t know how to do it. That’s one of the reasons I stopped, the other one and most important reason is that I’m just focused on my own stuff lately.

Many things are happening for you at the moment- f.e. H&M has chosen your song “With you” for the new David Beckham campaign- ongrats! What does this and success in general mean to you?

Ah thank you! I think success is when you feel that your life is going just the way you wanted it. I suppose that’s really really hard to accomplish in life, at least for me. I feel good when somebody says to me that he or she likes my music, I think it’s such a nice thing to say, but in my mind i don’t go out and think that I’m famous for that or like I have or I am a big success. I just try to keep doing something better than the last thing, hopefully. I never think about that.

What are your wishes for the near future? Any collaborations that you would love to do? Anything in your private life that should be fulfilled?

That’s a good question… I hope I can keep doing better music really, or more art-full stuff and that the people surrounding me can find happiness everyday.

Last great song you shaked to yourself- besides your own tracks;) ?

Anything from Barry White, we just danced to one of his songs lately and it was one of those moments you never forget. Talking about Barry White, there’s this song from Moodymann with Theo Parrish called “lake shore drive” which can shake everything.

What makes you happy?

The sun.

What makes you sad?

Human behavior.

What is the most important thing for you in life?

Love, life and the universe.

In our interview in 2008 your last words were: “You don´t need money to make good music” What are the last words you wanna tell this time?

You kind of need money to live though.

Disclosure feat. Sam Smith – Latch

Music

Oh wow, this track really crawls under the skin. And is also on repeat now. The UK producers Disclosure have created something truly enchanting. And of Berlin Thang Dai from electru already put it out straight: The romantic video shows what´s most important in life: LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! KISSING! … And this in any sort of form…

LIEBE! LIEBE! LIEBE! KISSING! ….Und das in jeder Form….

“Get A Life” by Fritz Kalkbrenner

CultureMusic

”Get A Life” is the melodic name of Fritz Kalkbrenner´s new single release out of his second upcoming album Sick Travellin’ released on the label Suol. The release will be on the 19.10.2012 and if all the other songs are as enjoyable and groovy as Get A Life then it turned out all good for the Berlin DJ and producer who in a roundabout way discovered his love for Techno. When in the late Nineties many of his friends had already dived into the world of electronic music he was more into hiphop. But in a city with legendary clubs such as  WMF, Tresor and Suicide Circus how can one not get caught up into electronic beats?

Well, so just tune in and enjoy! Oh and we really love the great illustrations by Katharina Hüttler in the video!
