The sun has finally appeared on the sky, summer is approaching and so is the 3rd La Bella Vida season. The very first edition (out of 5 that have been planned) is taking place in a very well known venue – it is a roofed terrace of the Prague Yacht Club Podolka, just at the bank of Vltava river.
Berlin based producer and dj Alexander Kastner, who is one half of Paskal & Urban Absolutes, accepted his invitation and he is going to play a Dj set which is usually beautifully slow and deep with the perfect summer atmosphere and very often with vocals. Alex himself and/ or together with Adrian Hoffman in scope of their project Paskal & Urban Absolutes released his productions on more than 20 labels. It is worth to mention his EP “Our Smile In Your Face” which was a second release at Lukas Micka’s Prague based label. Another obviously good choice for the line up is Brno based talent Tom Holic. His performance on last year’s La Bella Vida is almost legendary. The Line up will be completed by Aitcher Clark (live) – who has been very active both with his own productions and his project Awali(together with a Ukrainian singer Tamara Shmidt). The list of guest artists will be as usually supported by residents Milan Kroutil and Awacs.

The fourth edition of Lunchmeat festival is coming to fertilize the Czech club music landscape – now with a brand new and special location. Prague is going to absorb the fresh selection of beat visionaries of various kinds – be it glitch, trap, techno, house, IDM and more. Innovative visual side accompanying the music specially designed by forward thinking VJs and visualists remains commonplace. Mark Friday 26th of April in your virtual diaries – Lunchmeat is once again going to deliver nourishing audiovisual marvels for you listening pleasure.
Change is an essential element of life – and change is neccessary for Lunchmeat as well. The fourth annual feast of traditional audiovisual culture changed the place of residence at MeetFactory for a completely new and unknown space – a former cinema in the underground spaces of the National Gallery in the city center in Prague. The timing of the festival has been changed also – this year Lunchmeat is concentrated onto one day – Friday, the 26th of April. The main objective for the festival remains the same though. It has always been about bringing interesting representatives of contemporary progressive electronic music combined with an innovative visual artists. The main effort is to ensure that the result of their work will be a blend of organic audiovisual experience.
And now, the most important thing – the artists!
CLARK
The highlight of the festival will definitely be the show of one of the leading figures of legendary label Warp Records – Clark. The performance of this cult musician and electronic music matador will be completed by installations of the acclaimed Turkish visual studio NOHlab (holders of awards including from the Ars Electronica Festival) and residential artists of Lunchmeat festival.
KANGDING RAY
One of the leading figures of the famous label Raster-Noton. A graduated architect and eternal admirer of geometry – this perhaps explains why his compact beat constructions sounds so surgically precise and dangerously addictive. Not everything is techno that glitters – but you can be sure that everything he touches, turns to gold…
FANTASTIC MR. FOX
Seasoned beatmaker Fantastic Mr. Fox has been dedicated to producing since he was 14 years old – and a wealth of experience in music are recognized within production of this Manchester based artist. Black Acre label which released Fantastic Mr. Fox’s releases is one of those special ones that don’t follow hypes and trends on the scene and try to keep its quality by releasing only extraordinary qualities. Thanks to this, his erudite production has more of a permanent character.
LONG ARM
Russian producer Long Arm is already known as the author of the atmospheric compositions where the love for jazz meets with a keen sense of the original beat painting. Long Arm’s organic-sounding production found its stable home under the wings of an innovative team of Project Mooncircle. On Lunchmeat festival you can see him presenting an unique live set with drummer Ruslan Gadzhimurad.
SINJIN HAWKE
Montreal native and current Barcelona resident Sinjin Hawke belongs among the current generation of maximalist electronic artists and he is one of the most important drivers of euphorically dense club sound. His sounds are quite similar to artists such as Hudson Mohawke or Rustie. Sinjin is also an author of extraordinary EP the Lights Moreover and his live performances are extra special – he can do it without computer! His (in the literal sense) live set consists of original MIDI sequences that Sinjin, as one of a handful of current beatmakers, handles screwed on place only by MPC sequencer in a remarkable performance which is quite rare today. Definitely don’ t miss this master!
HYETAL
Hyetal has pricked up the attention of many with his productions, obtaining that hallowed MAH mix slot and garnering releases on Formant, Reduction, Planet Mu and (imminently) Soul Motive. His beats even recently prompted a member of Californian crunk smiths Lazer Sword to describe his music as feeling “like… I just won a marathon race and I’m at the dubstep rave and everyone is pouring champagne on me and I’m eating wedding cake with all my ex-girlfriends… and they just told me they still love me. All of them.”
The second stage will be marked by the current Czech & Slovak production – and its leaders Karaoke Tundra, FNTM, Stratasoul, Illex Aside, DJ Tucoand Zephyd intend to show that domestic beatmakers are not behind the foreign ones! The second stage will be located in the glass lobby of the former café bar Nova Synteza. In the week preceding there will be an open pop-space , where you can join lectures and workshops. As usual, a part of the accompanying program of Lunchmeat festival will be an infosession of the Red Bull Music Academy which present the work of Slovak beatmaker Stratasoul. RMBA celebrates 15 years since its foundation – this year in New York city, which begins almost immediately after Lunchmeat festival…

Another portion of good music music is in front of us! Just Like That crew invites another very special guest – mr. Rainer Trüby. So, as usual – you should not miss out on this one.
Rainer Trüby, ex-member of A Forest Mighty Black and today’s master of rare vinyl and wine, is still busy with DJ-ing around the globe (only a few airports have not seen his metal record box…vinyl, yes!). Spreading his musical vision of “good music” he delivers a delicious mix of different facets of house, blended with his beloved roots of soul, boogie, jazz, funk and latin. Known as part of the Trüby Trio and selector for compilations such as “Talkin Jazz”, “Maiden Voyage” (Compost) and “Beats & Oexle” (Sonarkollektiv) you wouldn’t challenge his musical taste at all.
Rainer’s latest single has just been released on Compost Records. It features the massive House tune “Jeck”, as well as the beautiful “Welcome To Our World” on the flip side, which knows how to convince with its groovy chords and catchy vocals. This release points out Rainer’s skills as a talented producer and fits perfectly into his DJ Sets.
Next to his Dj shows across the globe, Rainer is also responsible for his own legendary club-night “Root Down” at Waldsee Freiburg, where he recently invited legendary Gilles Peterson to join him for a very special Havana Cultura edition of Rainer’s constant party series.
Origami is an original vintage and second hand shop based in Prague. The idea of creating a vintage shop was born while two friends Eva & Petra were enjoying mulled wine and having a conversation about their love for second hand clothes. Both girls share this fascination for vintage clothes, especially the experience of feeling other lives and history from those clothes. “It’s like the clothes are telling us the stories of previous owners, how they lived or even what they were like.”
Origami would like to invite you to night shopping which will take place on November 21st! You can look forward to free drinks and home made cakes. But also on 30% sales on everything in shop and introducing the new collection of handmade bags TASHKI! So, don’t miss this one ;-)
This year’s FAMUFEST will present films, documents, experimental and animated films, experimental which were originated on Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU).
Famufest, as an annual festival of student films and works – must reflect what is going on in a society around it. The festival is like our Noir hero. Noir is not only a film genre but also the situation surrounding us, the way we live. It’s a critique and celebration both at the same time. Noir is a thin line between good and bad in all of us. Noir is sexual, it’s emancipation, rawness of the real life. It’s also mapping aspects of the society, from emotional to pragmatical, with its critical eye. Noir includes little pieces of the whole structure and they form the image of the society we live in. We want everyone to share their noir hero.
There is an atmosphere of uncertainty all around us more than ever. Untold fear is a food for our noir hero. He wants to absorb all claustrophobical, unreal and pessimistic into something bigger. This atmosphere is trying to bind us. It’s up to FAMUFEST NOIR to fight it, it’s up to our Noir hero..
We completely realise that it’s hard to dramaturgically reflect any kind of a connecting pattern among varied work of FAMU students. But it is that verve, passion, will to fight, to shock and to create that together create the connecting point. These all are the shattered pieces FAMUFEST wants to join together. It is our Noir hero, who sleeps within us, stands on the edge of society and watches everything.
Besides lot of interesting movie pieces there will be also music program, which includes great names such as Kate Wax, Lucy, Boska or Eltron John! All supported by quality artists from Czech. So, don’t miss this. We will be there ;)

Small and friendly open air on the banks of the river in Prague is back! And of course, stronger than before :)
Last year during a couple of sessions on the meadow near Kampa you could hear the best from Czech music scene (plus some foreign DJ guest stars of course). This year won’t be different, but even better. La Bella Vida will take place more often, with more DJs or live acts (who didn’t perform last year) and with the new and better scene. And of course – no worries- the sound will be always at its best.
The first La Bella Vida session is going to happen on the 16th of June. Other dates depend on the weather, so I highly recommend you to follow for more updates on La Bella Vida group on Facebook.
If you are planning to visit Prague during the summer months, trust me, you really SHOULD see this event :)
Have a wonderful summer!

Alex and Adrian have recently released great music on labels like Foul & Sunk or Visky Recordings and their next record will be released on Farside Records in a couple of weeks.
As we already informed you in our event sectionLunchmeat festival is back! Prague will be -for the 3rd time- a place where you can taste a quality mix of audio and visual art. Like every March, also this year´s festival takes place in 3 different venues – MeetFactory, Bio OKO and NoD. The festival´s has got something special to offer – a so called ” artist`s residence” which is a platform for creating and experimenting with stage design. This year´s Lunchmeat hosts 2 artists for 14 weeks is artist Florence To and for one week Hecq. Hecq`s residence will be actually very special because the result will not only be visuals, but also music. Lovers of quality sound will also be happy this year – the dubstep stage will provide a high-quality sound system “Sonic Spa”, which means no lights and massive sound only.
„Laborator tmy“ teaser video
The festival´s program includes a number of high quality musical artists, let`s introduce the major ones:
Steve Goodman aka Kode9, the head of Hyperdub label, will appear even twice! For the first time it´s going to be a performance of the project Her Ghost with duo MFO. This performance was also on Unsound festival by the way. Goodman is a very respectable artist, theoretic and author of Sonic Warfare book. For many people Kode9 is seen as the father of real dubstep.
Ben Lukas Boysen aka Hecq from Hymen records is already on the scene since 2003. His combination of dark and deep IDM with broken beats and ambient sounds has immediately enchanted people from Hymen records, which is still Hecq`s second home. Ben doesn`t do live shows often, so it is definitely very special for Prague!
Dubstep duo Author who is quite a new project of Jack Sparrow and Ruckspin (who is also a part of Submotion Orchestra) is another impressive name on the line-up. The duo released their debut album on Tectonic label last year which was quite a decent mix of downtempo and trip hop with jazz influences. One can say it`s not a typical sound of Pinch`s label but that`s the beauty. Their new album should be on its way so we may listen to some new pieces in MeetFactory!
One of the most significant faces of Rephlex label, Ed Upton aka DMX krew will be another exclusive live act in the program. So far he released more than 30 albums/EPs (also on his own label Breakin Records) and he is a technofunk legend.
Also worth to mention a series of Lunchmeat Warm up`s…
For those ones who are into visual art, there are Wall Art Battles (started on 8th March), which includes 7 projections on public spaces. visit facebook event for details of locations!
Two more warm ups will take a place at NoD, one on 19th March (which present “Laborator tmy” – a special A/V set) and 21st March (which present project Onomatopoeia).
Personally, I really can recommend this festival. Its concept is quite similar to the significant European festivals (like Unsound, Sound:frame or Transmedialle) and because SPERM festival has a short break for this year, Lunchmeat is the only choice :-) See you there!
So, dear party friends, do you already know how you will celebrate the arrival of spring? What about on a boat while great deep house music is being played all night long? Like it? I thought so. Let`s see some details :-)
Co-owner of Mild Pitch label, a member of Ribn project and long-time succesfull producer Manuel Tur is going to be the next special guest of one of Prague finest deep house parties – Just Like That. Support artists will be as usual Lukas Micka (Visky recordings) and Pat Heart. As a regular attendee of Just Like That parties, I can promise you won`t regret if you join us :-) Magic atmosphere of Bukanyr houseboat in combination with nice deep house beats… and I think that´s enough. Just come.
M a n u e l T u r
Born and raised in the German city of Essen, Tur released his first house record at the age of 16 on UK label Mada Music. Since then he’s appeared on labels like Delusions of Grandeur and Jimpster’s Freerange records, who will be releasing Swans Reflecting Elephants (his upcoming album!). He also runs his own imprint, Mild Pitch, together with Dplay and Langenberg, his partner in the duo Ribn. While Tur’s debut album from 2009 was decidedly downtempo, Swans Reflecting Elephants is more dance floor-oriented, albeit with lots of atmosphere and occasional ambient passages. Vocal appearances come from Blakkat, AKA Mark Bell (not to be confused with Mark Bell of LFO).
venue: houseboat U Bukanyra (nabrezi L. Svobody – close to botel Albatros, Prague 1)

After the premiere edition of Soul Signal party with Move D here comes another big legend to please our ears – big icon of Detroit scene – Mike Huckaby. A man who is highly respected as a producer, DJ as well a teacher of young Detroit talents. He will be supported by another interesting deep house DJ and label owner of Kinda Soul recordings – K-Soul.
DJs:
Mike Huckaby (Deep Transportation, SYNTH)
K Soul (Kinda Soul, Sistrum)
Rafo (Popular)
Lukas Micka (Visky Recordings)
MIKE HUCKABY (Detroit, US)
Mike Huckaby is a dance music purist extraordinaire. Being an integral part of the Detroit dance scene, he was the man behind the legendary Record Time store and as such gathered an encyclopedic knowledge of music. Mike is one of those rare guys who know all the roots and culture of electronic dance music, see beyond the hype and divisions in the scene and know exactly what this music is. He is the kind of purist whose love for music has literally had him flown around the globe. Huckaby also produced for labels like Rick Wade’s renowned Harmonie Park outfit, London’s Cross Section or his own ventures Deep Transportation and SYNTH. Apart from his activities as a DJ and producer, he also works as a sound designer and a tutor for the software company Native Instruments, and Ableton teaching Reaktor and Live around the world, as well as for a special Detroit youth foundation project called “YouthVille”.
K SOUL (IT)
At the time House music was definitely an underground movement and the Italian scene was just starting to develop. Record collector since 1988, being involved in his hometown music scene, he began spinning records in the 1992 in a few clubs and rave parties. Having the chance to work for a record shop, he moved to London in 1997 to follow his vocation and increase his musical experience. After a first phase, working mostly in the music business as a record seller and promoter for a well known venue in Italy, he starts DJing in clubs like Fridge bar, Dogstar to name a few and in his own house music radio show at Pyrotechnic Radio. Moving back to Italy after a short experience in Paris, he released, thanks to the Ksoul & Ra.h project, his first records for Sistrum recordings (Detroit) and Morphine records, getting extremely positive approvals by the main records shops and DJs around.
In the last 5 years he had the chance to play in several well established clubs all over Europe and Italy alongside DJs such as Theo Parrish, Rick Wade, Patrice Scott, Giles Smith, Cassy – to name just a few. Having collected a countless quantity of records and consequently raised a step beyond music knowledge, his DJ set is a blowing up mixture of Detroit tech-soul, deep house and techno, keeping an eye above all on the cohesion between old and new school, to pay tribute to the seminal Chicago house music scene of the eighties and the following fusion with the nowadays legendary sound of Detroit. He is the owner of label called KINDA SOUL RECORDINGS.
For more understand to the whole Detroit thing we highly recommend to watch this documentary made by Resident Advisor:
