Australian Videographer Thomas Iffla started his videography business Apertunity Productions whilst at University with three mates. But despite hard work we always also need some sweet breaks in between, right? So recently he traveled to Croatia with his girlfriend Khalilah who has grandparents and relatives living in Hvar and all around Europe and he documented the whole trip with the help of a drone. “The idea was to document my trip via drone – the Phantom 3 – and see what kind of video came from it. One comment made by everyone is how perspective of the trip takes on a new dimension with moving aerial footage.” The outcome is some serious teaser making the place look so tempting for us, showing stunning bays, emeraldgreen water and life at its best moments.
The most beautiful spots in Hvar island/Croatia?
The central port has to be up there. It’s a long stone strip of restaurants on one side and large expensive super yachts on the other. The place has vibes through all hours of the day and night, from rich old boat owners to young travellers coming through Croatian yacht week. The main square is a must. It’s surrounded by historic buildings including St Stephens Cathedral. It’s filled with contemporary restaurants and shops, which gives it a natural balance for both tourists and locals. Hvar Castle/fort. As you can see in the video it overlooks the entire port which is just beautiful. There is a nice little café in the fort that does amazing fresh squeezed juices.
And best restaurant?
Personally “Burger Steak House” In the main square was the best for me. I’m not exactly a ‘foody’, so I feel like this could be answered a lot better by someone more qualified. I just love burgers.
Tell me about your most memorable moment?
It has to be exploring the Adriatic waters. A mate from school and his girlfriend messaged me saying he was coming to Hvar. We hired a speedboat as you can see in the film and explored the blue and green caves and a nice little bay in-between. It was the most ridiculous day, flattest I’ve ever seen the ocean.
Famous person you’d love to travel with?
Definitely Zach Galifianakis. You want to have a laugh on the trip and I feel like he would bring that.
What’s next on your travel bucket list?
My next planned trip is an African safari for my sisters 30th. Intend to get up close and personal with the animals. Hopefully the drone can keep up.
