Who is behind ME?

ME, that’s me… I’m a professional photographer living in New York, NY. I’ve been shooting for the past 15 years, mostly magazine portraits. A few years back, I started meinmyplace.com because I had a feeling the simple template of real women, in their own homes, in their undies would surely be a hit. Seems to be the case.

What does a good picture have to have in your eyes?

My background is in portrait photography, so for me it is all about making the subject feel comfortable and getting that surprising or genuine expression. Having the women scantily clad is sort of a trick really. What really makes the site and the images work is that you get a sense of each person’s personality…

All the models on your site are so sweet and sexy. When is a woman beautiful in your eyes?

I feel like women are most beautiful when they are comfortable and willing to show a side of themselves that they keep hidden away. There is something special about sharing that moment, when they seem to be telling you a secret about themselves. I’m a bit of a junkie for this and can never seem to get enough.

I scrolled through a lot of positive comments and feedback. How important is success for yourself?

The positive feedback is great. Since I traditionally work for magazines and advertising agencies, meinmyplace.com is the first place where I really had interactions directly with the public viewer. It is like one giant focus group… you really get a sense of what works and what doesn’t.

And do you also receive critical voices sometimes?

Sure, but I feel like a lot of it is just ‘trolling’ frustrated people, especially the negative or hurtful comments. I will say, I do read all the comments and they are useful. I’ve developed a subscription based mobile web app for the site app.meinmyplace.com and it has been tricky to get the word out to my audience without being obnoxious. These critical voices have been very helpful for me to find better ways to market the app and be able to keep the site going. So I will certainly take the good with the bad when it comes to comments.

The thing that has inspired you the most lately – workwise and also in your private life?

Well, taking pictures is the fun part and the easy part. The real work for me right now is trying to develop the MIMP APP and market it effectively to all the MIMPsters out there. It might sound silly, but there is a steep learning curve on this for me, so when I get it right, I feel great…

The most important thing for you in life is?

Keeping things fresh and new. I’ve got a 9 year old daughter, and watching her grow up has taught me a lot about this. I think as adults we don’t realize this, but we are always changing and developing… going through stages just like kids. I think it is important to embrace change and enjoy the moment. Keep MIMPing as I like to say…
