“The best thing about fashion is that there are always new ways to play with it.”

Lisi Lang, the designer of the young Vienna fashion label Lila, likes to create playful fashion; cute and feminine at the same time. The completely self-taught artist dropped into the world of vogue just by accident and we wanted to know how in the world something like this happens and want to add right away that we are happy that a stroke of fate ultimately has lead to her charming shop in the 7th district of Vienna. Aside from that her collection shootings are surrounded by the magic flair of scenes out of an ancient, glamorous movie – so reasons enough to set our wits to her…

How have you decided to become a fashion designer? And what is your favorite part of being a designer?

I never really decided it, it happened to me by accident. My love for fashion has always been there, but I did the pieces only for myself. One day an owner of a shop wanted me to sell 30 pieces to him of the garment I was wearing, and so I did and then the business started. What I most love about my work is the moment when I pick up the new collection at my taylors place, and hang them up in the atelier, observe them and decide the mood of the next shooting.

What is one of your favourite moment when you start working? 

Drawing the cuts on with the text marker onto new fabrics

How would you describe your aesthetics?

Ease, playfulness, discretion, close to the body, coziness

How do you see the Austrian fashion scene at the moment? And what effect does Vienna have on your creativity?

There are a lot of adorable fashion designers here in Vienna. They work here and are internationally successful. It is a good place to start and to stay partially; over here there are a lot of institutions who support young designers to establish themselves in the international scene. And here are also a lot of people who love and buy the collections, who are basically wearing us every day, which is great for everybody, because there is a lot of interest coming from the customer´s side.

What do you believe makes a quality article of clothing?

A very good idea combined with an unexpected attribute, this can be a small detail

Where do you see yourself in a few years?

A little bit better organized and bit more relaxed, doing the same thing as now
