“I enjoy splitting myself between the ethereal and the sinister” Rochester, United States based producer midnight (mdnt) describes his music as “Future Soul”. Right before he is about to drop out his new single “Adonis” he took some time to speak to us about it. “This record is about the blurred line between love and lust and the inevitable mortality of Intimacy.” Produced by Nick Leng mastered by Christian Mochizuki this is a real smooth and soothing piece; like pouring down a hot drink on a cold day…

The greatest inspirations for writing a new song are… Growing up I was obsessed with Maxwell and Erykah Badu.  They’re masters at utilizing the subtlety of space in their songs.  A lot of singers come at you the whole time.  But my favorite vocalists are the ones who understand that you hold more power when you don’t give everything away, and that translates to production, style, sex, etc.. my life motto.
And what´s the inspiration behind “Adonis”? This record is about the blurred line between love and lust and the inevitable mortality of Intimacy.  Intimacy with another person and the feeling someone gets from drugs are very similar, as are the consequences.  There’s always too much of a good thing.  The story of Adonis, the Greek god of Beauty and Desire, fit this concept of duality perfectly for me.
So, “Adonis” is much more dreamy then your last track. How would you describe it yourself? As beautiful and welcoming as the melodies are in this song, the lyrics are actually pretty dark and foreboding. It was important to have that balance where the production was elevated and ethereal in order to offset the theme, which at it’s core is pretty sinister. Nick Leng really has been the perfect collaborator because he understands balance and subtlety on such an instinctive level. I enjoy splitting myself between the ethereal and the sinister… you’ll see that soon with my upcoming releases.
Last concert that you have been to yourself? I don’t go to a lot of concerts because I don’t do well in crowds.  Hoards of drunk raging people tend to make me violent. I don’t like to put myself in those situations if I don’t have to.
Are there any instruments do you play? I write a lot on my guitar, but I’m really piss poor at everything but singing honestly.
You twittered “the allure of smoking cigarettes alludes me completely. nasty.” some while ago. We are just curious – but you tried to stop smoking? No, I’ve never smoked a cigarette, they’re full of chemicals and deteriorate your body.  But it is kinda hypocritical of me since I enjoy a good cigar now and then haha.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I’m planning on being more intelligent, more established, and equally alive
The most important thing in life? Perseverance
A questions we should have asked you? I would’ve asked “Do you have more dope shit in store for us” my answer would be HYFR ;)
Haha, good! Thanks for the interview
