“I want to expose and show both open and strong but also vulnerable sides of human beings. The will predominates, the predaceous.”

Photographer Nadya-Vanessa Vega, who you might recognize under her artist name nomnomvega, is a Berlin based photographer. An incredible talented autodidact whose images are superstrong, sexy and as addicitive as the taste of melting chocolate on your tongue. We talked to her about the choreography joined together in her mind, what she is looking for in a model and her future goals.

You are based in Berlin. Where are you originally from and has Berlin welcomed you from the start?

I was born in a small town near Munich. I am half Thai half Austrian. I’ve always felt drawn toward the big cities and that’s how Berlin became my home of choice and how Berlin ended up being my adoptive home.

Your images are strong. I feel that on all your images people seem very confident with their bodies, their sexuality and themselves. Are you trying on purpose to portray these strong sides of people?

I would like to give an authentic and presumably even truthful answer: I want to expose and show both open and strong but also vulnerable sides of human beings. The will predominates, the predaceous.

How much of yourself is in your work? Would you say that you are a strong and confident person?

I would like to capture specific expressions, a choreography joined together in my mind. My view on the world, without me in person though.

What are you looking for in a model – how do you select the people you wanna shoot?

There are no specific types, the models / people need to have charisma and appeal to me one way or another.

The moment that you realized that you wanted to take photography further than “party photograpy”?

I change over time and so do my works.

Do you have goals in life or you go with the flow?

I don’t have an annual agenda of what I want to achieve, but I am naturally driven to improve myself and evolve. Let life happen around me and hope, that my pictures will find international acknowledgement.

What are you sentimental about?

Past. There are many things that still haunt me till today.

On a Saturday night we can usually find you…?

Hmm… Always somewhere else.

Hello from Berlin! I love freedom, travelling, long train rides, Stefan Zweig books, cats, colours, writing postcards, music, and movies à la Woody Allen and Wes Anderson. What makes me really happy is the seaside, sunrises and sunsets and having lots of time!
