Everyone has a crossover moment in their life.

Sometimes it’s sharp; brought on by circumstances out of your control. Sometimes it’s gradual, perhaps the never ending trek of self-improvement. Not to say there can’t be more than one of those moments, but the crossover is a very human experience. And today, that’s where Canadian singer-songwriter Ari Hicks finds herself, coming into her musical self under the nom-de-plume, ARI. “Nothin but a Monster” is the first stop on the other side of the line. It’s an ode for realizing your demons, and the power from within that emerges when coming to terms with them. It’s pop, but with strong R&B sensibilities and a spotless production. It’s quite the debut, and ARI’s just getting started. Check it out exclusively on C-Heads today before it drops on all streaming platforms tomorrow.

“The monster in my lyrics is the monster that infiltrates your thoughts, doubts and makes you feel like you’re trapped in your own head.”

“I was very adamant about ‘Nothin but a Monster” being the first song I release for many reasons. It’s a bit scary bearing your soul for the whole world to hear, and to me, this song perfectly conveys the struggle I’ve had my whole life living in a place I didn’t particularly love. The monster in my lyrics is the monster that infiltrates your thoughts, doubts and makes you feel like you’re trapped in your own head.”
