Sometimes, in the early bloom of a new romance, we try to play it cool – holding back the wild rush of excitement, hiding how far our hearts have already traveled ahead. It’s that electric, hopeful feeling, with dreams weaving in between each glance and touch, stirring the imagination of what could be. Sofia Gobbi knows that feeling all too well, and in her latest single, “Whatcha Doing,” she captures those heady first steps into love. “‘Whatcha Doing’ is about the early stages of dating someone new,” she shares, “you’re trying to play it cool, but you’re already picturing the wedding.”

With a bit of British humor and that raw pulse of emotion, “Whatcha Doing” is crafted for the moment when you’re teetering between restraint and fully diving in. The track radiates with Gobbi’s knack for tapping into shared feelings, offering an honest reflection on the thrill, uncertainty, and laughter that come with these beginnings.

“One of my favorite things about writing songs is realizing how many people go through the same things as you.”

Growing up with an Italian father and Californian mother, Sofia spent her childhood singing and creating, finding comfort and belonging in music. “One of my favorite things about writing music,” she says, “is realizing how many people go through the same things as you.” This unifying theme, wrapped in her punchy lyrics and infectious alt-pop/rock sound, has already brought her to the ears of many since her debut.

Produced with Grammy-nominated Andrea Mastroiacovo, “Whatcha Doing” brings a fresh pulse to Sofia’s growing collection and sets the tone for her upcoming album. For Sofia, each song is a chance to connect, to laugh, and to reflect, offering what she calls “a comfort blanket” for anyone listening – a reminder that they’re not alone in their experience. With her debut album around the corner, we can expect more of Sofia’s authentic storytelling, the kind that dares to wear its heart right where it can be heard.
