Berlin based Photographer Robin Kater puts the likewise Berlin label dyn, founded by Friderike Homann, really well into scene. Clear cuts mixed with  ellaborate fabrics kept in warm earth tones makes this collection really wearable, yet outfits for a really special, sophisticated look and occasion. The Körnerpark in Neukölln provided the perfect location for this story called ”lilion”, with a last gasp of a frosty landscape. Model is Lukas Ziegele @VIVA Models, Styling is done by Cesco Spadaro and the concept was created by Friderike Homann.

VPE Style Picks from Larry Tee’s Fashion Disaster Party, XOYO, London

London Fashion Week prompted some major excitement this year as a number of new and innovative designers hit the nightlife scene to show off their latest creations. Larry Tee’s Fashion Disaster Party at XOYO gathered the most notable of the innovators under one roof, setting the stage for an eventful evening. Soundtracked by Electro and Hip Hop, there was a feast for the eyes at every glance. Rapper Brooke Candy headlined the show and made her London debut, exuding a powerful presence. She is known for reclaiming negative stereotypes and projecting them freely as a ‘sexy-ass female who’s running shit and confident.’ Candy’s self-confessed over-sexualized image encouraged attendees to push their own boundaries. Her style has been inspired by Lil Kim, Left Eye and her work behind the scenes at Hustler magazine, making Candy a perfect mannequin for East London’s fascination with all things empowering.

Before the main show, we saw Serious Thugs duo made up of Alis Pelleschi and Yung Willuminati. Pelleschi was representing her latex label MEAT with a pastel blue dress from the ‘4D Fantasy’ collection. Her design collaborator Bo Claridge was in the audience flaunting a two-piece from the new collection, ‘Believe,’ which was presented during fashion week. As a fan of latex, I’ve been following MEAT’s ascent and am very excited about what they have just showcased for LFW. It also draws upon female empowerment, merging the smart with the sexy.

Alongside pumping beats, thuggish rap and a conclave of exciting characters we witnessed the likes of another young star, Mary Benson, who was wearing pieces from her new collection that we were introduced to during LFW. Donning a sheer black dress decorated with black vinyl roses and a jacket in dark blue fleece, Benson has shown a natural progression from her trademark playful holograms, and moved on to more regal designs.

Manchester-based label Horsebird made quite a stir at the party as designers Antony Kaye and Toria Brightside gave Candy and a select group of London’s alternative style enthusiasts their own custom varsity jackets. Owned by Kaye, Horsebird launched in September 2012. With magazine covers and North-based stockists already under Kaye’s belt, the brand has shown to soar to great heights in the short time since. Kaye’s mantra is centred around quality, demonstrated in the attention to detail and tailoring on the jackets we saw at the Fashion Disaster Party.

55DSL-2341

The best ads are the ones which dont seems like one. 55DSL launched their new Spring Summer 2013 campaign “Italy, Texas”, a wonderful cinematic short movie filmed by Aoife McArdle and produced by Tamsin Glasson. In the small town of Italy, Texas, not far from Dallas, the acclaimed Irish born director found the perfect setting to tell a story of unique and unconventional friendships. A celebration of creativity inspired by the new 55DSL collection. For two weeks this other Italy became the film set and its wonderful residents – including their pets – were the stars. A film that examines our relationship with the wild souls with whom we share our lives. Animals, humans, the spirit of life itself; these souls are headstrong, they are untamable and they are a part of us. Touching!

Gold Label AW1314_1

For the latest Vivienne Westwood Gold Label collection the inspiration came from 4 different corners: Historical and ethnic, structure and ‘flou’. “This season we visited medieval Europe via the beautiful illustrations in illuminated manuscripts. The return of the crusaders changed England enormously. They brought back luxuries and ideas not only from Italy but from the Arab world. When you go back in time you also enter the future. We have superimposed political graphics from Climate Revolution on our collection; fundamental to which is our support for Greenpeace/ for the World to Save the Arctic.”

Cara Delevingne for Reserved SS2013

Fashion

C0002

Cara, Cara!

Wow, this making of video is really magic. Cara Delevingne is the face for the current Reserved SS2013 campaign which was filmed in Miami, Florida including a wonderful soundtrack by We Draw A “Tears from the sun”.  On repeat!

The International WOOLMARK PRIZE 2013

Fashion

2013 International Woolmark Prize Final - Show

A big part of why the Fashion Week is so exciting is that we always discover fresh talents and new inspirations.  And we were lucky enough to get invited to the INTERNATIONAL WOOLMARK PRIZE 2013, initiated by The Woolmark Company and that took place at the ME hotel in London. They were on the search for a fresh and talented designer, who could let the  material wool shine in new splendour.  And they stroke it rich.

Christian Wijnants, a Belgian fashion designer based in Antwerp, convinced not only us, but also the jury made out of big names such a Victoria Beckham, Donatella Versace, Diane von Furstenberg, Franca Sozzani und Tim Blanks.

“Christian has created a new style, and has implemented this in a perfect way for an industrial manufacturing. His designs are flattering, feminine and sexy, they are the modern interpretation of wool.” explains Franca Sozzani, editor in chief of Vogue Italia and L’uomo Vogue. We couldn´t have put it in a better way.

So with 100,000 Australian Dollars in his pockets and the chance of having his fashion being sold, from September 2013 onwards, in highly established shops such as Harvey Nichols- London, Bergdorf Goodman – New York, 1o Corso Como – Mailand, Joyce – China, David Jones –Sydney und Eickhoff Königsallee – Germany, not much can go wrong now for the happy and well deserved winner Christian.

He has outdone his likewise talented and international fellow campaigners Dion Lee  from Australia, Ban Xiao Yue from China, Pankaj and Nidhi from India, DRESSEDANDRESSED from  Japan and Sophie Theallet from the US, with his Capsule Collection made out of Merino wool. Everything is based on the simple idea to start with a white thread and use its full potential. The designer worked with a yarn made out of 100% Merino woll and created seamless pieces, knitted in one go. His main topic was to use the techniques of handmade knitwear and handmade textile colourings.

Not only do we love his wearable designs, but the fact that wool is one of the most sustainable and lasting fibres and keeps you warm and cosy in winter, makes all this even more attractive to us.

Dree Hemingway und Liu Wen for Esprit - Behind the Scenes
