When we asked Dems a while ago what was the best piece of advice anyone has ever given to them, they told us “Never show anything to anyone till it’s totally ready. Display your work at it’s very best, and in the right way.” We prove the South London trio right and they have again created something wonderful that is now ready for you to relish. Although their latest single “Gold” has a deeper socio-critical background, they are capturing the atmospheric sounds as usual. Driven by faster beats, emotive dark lyrics and straight massive synths the video combines the feeling with additional dark city scenery.

When London is troubled, the residents can feel it. For the last two years, they made music and visuals in a Guardians space in the ruin of an abandoned post office in South London. Now, as has so much of London, that space has been taken by developers, sold off to make flats for the 1%, and the artists and makers and journalists trying to turn cheap rent into a living have been scattered. The identity of London is fragmenting, the kids are fucked off, and Dems reflect this in their music. “Gold” is the first of a series of new tracks asking what the city will become.

“The video was created in the flooded basement of the bands studio in South London. The surreal story of a golden creature brought to life through a cosmic event, perhaps symbolic of a new soul entering the body or a more chaotic chance event. We follow her first steps in a new body as she experiences the surrounding world, with her inner monologue expressed through her companion that lives at the end of a string attached to her wrist.”
