With a busy 2025 in the rearview, Florence Italy’s Out Run are gearing up for their long-awaited debut EP, which is set to arrive in l’anno nuovo. Having offered a smorgasbord of cohesive singles so far, the latest taste comes in the form of “Gray Cloud,” a melancholy but buoyant number that the duo says was born in the heart of the storm. Lead singer Ginevra Abbarchini’s dry but smooth vocal suspends itself over a driving electric piano and haunting underlying mix. Without resolution, it’s a sweetheart of a listen in the darker months, when the calm becomes monotone and the gray homeostatic. Nonetheless, with spring just around the corner in their native Florence, one would think the clouds will part soon, and Out Run’s next offering should be poised to blossom.

Words by Andy Gorel

“This song doesn’t resolve, because real pain doesn’t always resolve. ‘Gray Cloud’ ends where it begins: inside the storm. It’s an intimate portrait of trying to keep breathing when the world feels muted and far away.”
