“We wanted to shoot something with the nostalgic feeling of 70’s fashion editorials in tropical locations. Isabel has a timeless look that felt right for the aesthetic. I love the combination of grainy film stock with beautiful, sunny vacation-like environments. It harkens back to an era when even the cleanest film stock had grain.
In the past, you would also see this look on lower-budget photo shoots, sometimes for erotic magazines. I think this was often because those photographers didn’t expose properly or used the wrong film for the location. But out of that came something that feels innately tantalizing, even though it’s actually more concealing than revealing. It’s the photographic equivalent of lace over skin. And I think it creates a level of suggestion and intimation that’s more attractive than seeing everything on sharp lenses with digital clarity.”
