“Music videos can be tricky. They sometimes can ruin the spirit of a song with the wrong images. I was intrigued with this project from the beginning, especially as ‘Part Twelve’ was never a contender for a video. Taisia certainly gave the song a new level.”

tells Paul Kalkbrenner about his latest video release in collaboration with the Kyiv based production house Radioaktive Film. The first time we watched the video it felt a bit like reading a good Stephen King book, it creates a tight feeling in your chest but captures your imagination and continues to have an effect long after it has already finished. The track itself, originally released as part of the 2018 LP ‘Parts of Life’, is already terrific. In combination with the video, written and directed by the Russian born female director Taisia Deeva, a perfect work of art.

“I am a big fan of Paul Kalkbrenner’s music. The first time I heard ‘Part Twelve’, it made me literally feel like life was flowing through my body. Sparks of ecstasy. A stabbing feeling of regret. The story then started to unfold in my head.” explains Taisia Deeva about the making of the short film, that focuses around the life of a patriarchal and totalitarian community living in an isolated place after the death of the oldest man, their leader. It is gloomy to watch how the female members act out the ritual of following their leader, but at the end hope returns when a strong soul escapes this system.
