Good energy is just what we need right now therefore we absolutely love the new video from the UK’s Gorgon City feat Chicago’s Drama. The beautifully shot video involving a street dance interpretation of ‘West Side Story’, filmed in DRAMA’s hometown of Chicago with a local street dance crew underlines the cool sound in the most perfect way and is a homage to the city that inspired Gorgon City & Drama’s collaboration.

We had a chat with Gorgon City about how the collaboration came about, the most special thing about Chicago and about getting the best results when the work process is laid back and fun.

Matt & Kye alias Gorgon City, how did you discover DRAMA?

We had been a big fan of DRAMA’s music for a while and always wanted to work with them. They’re based in Chicago where Kye is living now, so we got in the studio with them, and made ‘Nobody’. One of our favourite things about the collaboration, was seeing how they work together in the studio. The whole process felt like a ‘jam’. We just wrote whatever we felt at the time, and didn’t over think anything. The whole track came together really quickly, after the first session, we took the project back to London and finished writing and producing the track. The vibe of the track is something a little different for us, and we’re really excited to get it out there.

The awesome video was also shot in Chicago. Who had the idea for it and who directed it?

The video was directed by our friend Mickey Voak, who works for a production company called STVDIUM. We’ve worked with him before on the videos for ‘Hear That, ft D Double E’, and ‘Let it Go, ft Natt Dunn’. He always captures the vibe of the song perfectly. The video is inspired by West Side Story, but we wanted to put a more soulful spin on the storyline, showing off the vibe of Chicago.

What´s the most special thing/vibe about the city of Chicago?

For me, it’s the people. Unlike a lot of other big cities, everyone is very down-to-earth, genuine and relatable. And obviously the music scene is world class.

“Working with DRAMA was great… and the whole process was very laid back and fun. I think that’s when you get the best results.”

For a collaboration is it important to you that you also connect on a personal level with the artist?

Yes. It makes a huge difference, it makes the project feel more genuine. Working with DRAMA was great, it was cool seeing how they work together. Their writing process is very unique, the whole process was very laid back and fun. I think that’s when you get the best results.

What´s the story behind your artist name ‘Gorgon City’?

We took the name from the computer game, Zelda.

Any other words or thoughts that you want to share with the world right now?

Stay safe everyone and look after each other!
