“I’ve heard a lot about the European summer and the posh idea of it that you see on Instagram – ‘the bella vita’ style. However, this series showcases how Italian young people actually spend their summers: together, in nature, enjoying food, music, and games in a more authentic and less fashionable way. This series was shot in the low Tuscan region of Maremma, one of the most magical places I know. A beautiful rural camping spot by the sea, where people have known each other since childhood, is the setting. Good wine, great food, the sea – elements of a carefree summer. Salty hair and living in bikinis, truly free, with no concern for outfits or makeup. During these holidays, I always leave with a bag full of dresses that I end up not using. Volleyball every night at sunset on the beach with a spritz, spending the hottest hours playing cards and relaxing in the shade, soaking up the early morning sun, and spending time with the parents and grandparents of everyone, cooking, chatting, and being together. Living in tents and caravans and disconnecting from the city, the world, jobs – this is a familiar place, where my sisters and I have spent summers for almost 20 years.”
