Pompeya is back.

The Muscovian group have kept fairly quiet in terms of new releases since 2020’s LP Bingo, but after long wait, are back. Their new single “Cold” is classic Pompeya – groovy, dancey, and retro – but moves with a sort of presence that is undeniably current. It’s an exploration of location, and what lead singer Daniil Brod calls a “peculiar” form of “sad travel.”

“’Cold’ is about a long distance relationship that has been constantly questioned due to uncertainties,” says Brod, before adding, “However, personally to me, this song seems to hold a bigger picture of what it feels like recently when a lot of people have to move away from their homes due to different circumstances… I think this storyline will run through most of the songs in our next album – a peculiar way of a sad travel.”

Having been based everywhere from their native Moscow to Los Angeles, the band themselves are no strangers to the road. With an extensive touring history, the group are hitting the road this fall, with shows everywhere from Belgrade to Beijing, just the beginning of whats to come in this new era of Pompeya, which will come in the form of more new releases next year.

“Originally, ‘Cold’ is about a long distance relationship that has been constantly questioned due to uncertainties. The character in the story spends their days alone texting their loved one, basically getting the cold shoulder.

However, personally to me, this song seems to hold a bigger picture of what it feels like recently when a lot of people have to move away from their homes due to different circumstances. Some of them have to live in the unknown. Some of them are breaking up. People feel apart.

I like to travel, but eventually I also love to come back home. For many people though it’s just not a fun journey. I think this storyline will run through most of the songs in our next album – a peculiar way of a sad travel.”
