Nearly a year since her last release, Argentine-American Pilar Victoria has emerged from the quiet with a new single in hand. Picking up where she left off with Grammy-winning producer Happy Perez, “Mi Vida” is a slow-burning ode to the dull but consuming ache that often comes with long-distance love. “Don’t go to sleep, just talk to me. Just one more thing, baby don’t dream,” she sings in the pre-chorus, the song’s lone English stanza.

“I was on FaceTime with my long-distance boyfriend and we were in different time zones. He ended up falling asleep before me while we were on the phone,” said Pilar. “It was a moment where I was feeling a bit lonely, confused and really missing this person.”

Heralded forward by sliding guitars and doused in reverb, “Mi Vida” is smooth and fit for fall air. It’s also a testament to how well the producer-artist flow has been between her and Perez. “You will be hearing from me more often now,” she said, announcing the song’s addition to the celestial jukebox, meaning there’s more to come.

” It was a moment where I was feeling a bit lonely, confused and really missing this person, so I decided to pick up my guitar and start writing.”

“‘Mi Vida’ was a song I wrote during my first year of college while I was in my dorm room one night when I couldn’t sleep. I was on FaceTime with my long distance boyfriend and we were in different time zones. He ended up falling asleep before me while we were on the phone. It was a moment where I was feeling a bit lonely, confused and really missing this person, so I decided to pick up my guitar and start writing to get my mind off all the emotions I was feeling. It was the first and only song I wrote in college. I remember the writing process being very easy, which was rare during this time. Everything just flowed so well.”
