Images can hardly provoke anymore — at least not in the way they used to. The internet is full of everything one could possibly want to see. There’s nothing that doesn’t exist. But that’s not the role of photography anymore — if it ever was. Images should inspire. Let us forget the moment. Make a scene unforgettable — maybe even immortal.
Inspired by the works of Helmut Newton, both model and photographer set out to create images that are classic, stylish, provocative, and powerful. Model Marine styled herself in high fashion outfits — edgy and unapologetic — while photographer Dom Rui worked mostly with medium format film to give the series a timeless feel. The images were taken both inside and on the rooftop of Dom’s art deco studio in Potts Point, Sydney.
