The music of Berlin-based artist YAGUT is pure feeling – tender, soft, and full of inner landscapes. Today she releases her debut EP EGO, together with the title single “Ego,” inspired by the idea that change does not begin in the outside world, but within. It’s about presence: observing consciously without getting lost in thoughts, choosing responsibility over blame — a message that, honestly, feels like something society could benefit from.
The entire EP moves like a slow walk through her reflections, for anyone wanting to pause for a moment in the speed of everyday life. As she tells us in our conversation: “Lately, I’ve been trying not to have expectations – not about numbers, not about other people. I simply trust.” Maybe we simply need a few more YAGUTs in this world.

Dear YAGUT, we spoke last summer – although it honestly feels like much longer.
And now your debut EP EGO has arrived. Congratulations! Was there a moment where you felt, “This is it – this is the collection I want to share”?
I wrote all the songs around the same time, during a period when I was deeply exploring my inner world. After taking some distance and really internalizing everything, I knew what I wanted to share.
When choosing the songs, did you follow a theme – or was it more instinctive?
More instinctive. It was an important phase in my life, and all of these songs belong to that phase.
Which of the songs on EGO is closest to your heart right now – and why?
Closest to my heart right now is “Ego,” because this song is inspired by the book A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, which helped me through a difficult time and has changed my way of thinking to this day.
The title single “EGO” is so beautiful – like a gentle, deep dream. You mentioned that “EGO” marks a turning point and a conscious act of letting go. Can you share more about what exactly you are letting go of? Is it past relationships, old expectations, or something else?
I’m letting go of the blame I placed on myself, as well as the images I kept replaying in my head, images that made me relive the same emotions over and over again.

“Like many artists, I dream of the world beyond one place.”
How do you write your lyrics? Do they come spontaneously, flowing out in the moment – or do you sit down intentionally with a theme and work through it?
I tend to work from concepts, letting them evolve during the session.
Last time we talked, we also discussed the German music scene. Do you ever dream about leaving?
Like many artists, I dream of the world beyond one place. I’m curious about how different environments might influence my music over time. Who knows where that will take me. I’m open to it.
Some artists feel that in other places the creative climate feels freer or the weather is nicer – is that ever something you think about?
Definitely. Berlin can be very inspiring, but it can also feel very overwhelming.
On Instagram you shared a short video with the line: “Why do we have to be all bad bitches? No one wants to show their vulnerability.” Such a powerful message. Do you get a lot of feedback from your audience about that?
I receive very beautiful feedback, and it shows me even more how important it is to share your thoughts and your story with others.

“All of these songs belong to an important phase in my life.”
It often feels like people who are more sensitive have a harder time. It’s simply not easy in a world that can be quite harsh at times. How do you stay grounded and protect your sensitivity while navigating a tough industry and public expectations?
Lately, I’ve been trying not to have expectations. Not about numbers, not about other people. I simply trust.
What was the hardest decision you had to make for this EP – musically or personally?
Honestly, there wasn’t a hard decision. Everything felt very clear. Maybe the only question was which songs we wanted to put more in the spotlight.
Which question do you wish someone had asked you, but no one has – and what would your answer be?
If they could organize a tour for me. (laughs) My answer would be yes.
