Come Back To Life: A chat with Zach Gray of The Zolas

Forming in 2008, the Canadian indie pop outfit is closing in on 15 years of being. Still thriving in an era where many artist projects last less than 15 months, that’s quite impressive. “When I chose this job it was literally write music, record it, tour it, and do interviews… That was it,” says frontman Zach Gray, reflecting on how things have changed. Yet, while they find themselves far from their proggy piano rock beginnings, their flame still burns bright, and it shows on their most recent full-length, Come Back To Life.

Oli Fox reflects on love with new song ‘Half As Much’

“The EP is a crash course on how to fall in and out of love. From ‘The season’, which I wrote in a state of euphoria after putting myself back into the dating scene, to the bitter recollection of a relationship I’d left in ‘Cloud 9’. It’s a bit of an epiphany, realising that someone can almost make you feel twice the person you were without them, hence the concept of ‘I only ever felt half as much’”.

French duo 3615 Nuits Blanches releases dreamy single “Fin Août Début Septembre”

“Fin Août Début Septembre is all about that moment when you’re packing stuff after a summer vacation, ready to leave the hotel room. That precise moment between the end of freedom and the (re)start of normal life. You think about all the good times, the fun you had, when you forgot about everything else, wishing you could keep those memories in a bottle and make them last forever.”

“I want to stay open” Singer and songwriter Sam Valdez talks new video “Unwind”, success and connection with the crowd

The new single “Unwind” by Sam Valdez is seriously addictive. With her appealing soft voice she brings an ambivalent and mystical atmosphere to the song and it sends every inch of your body in overdrive. “The songwriting became a way to escape from the darker headspace I was in while writing it.” We wanted to know more about the Los Angelese based artist and talked to her about the accompanied video, the meaning of success and why she loves to be on stage.

Outside Lands – Three Days Of Music And Magic

One of the largest music festivals on the West Coast, Outside Lands, took place at Golden Gate Park in the fantastic city of San Francisco, with some of the biggest names in the music industry.
The vibe of Outside Lands is much different than festivals like Coachella because it focuses more on the musical atmosphere instead of curating an atmosphere for social media influencers to show off their brand deals and create content.

‘Something Special’ with Berlin based singer and songwriter Minoa

“Something Special embodies a sweet nostalgia. The verses tell the story of a loving couple. You can see their happy faces right in front of your eyes. But then, in the chorus it is revealed, that this is already history. That they were letting each other go, because they didn’t know how special it was, what they had. Still this is more than just a sad song. It’s about embracing the bloom of a relationship after having past its prime..”

“I’ve always been a very restless soul.” Sofia Karlberg talks new “Hold My Love” EP, Moroccan roots and being in the here and now

Describing herself as a bit of a restless soul, the pandemic made her realize about always being on the run, with endless possibilites around each corner, but having a hard time to put two and two together and not really living in the present moment. The realization of all that and relocating from her home city Stockholm to Berlin had a great influence and impact not only on her life but also on her music and new EP.

Searching for Love with L.A. Salami’s new song ‘Systemic Pandemic’

If someone asked me what makes a “real” musician in my eyes, I would probably just give L.A. Salami as an answer. Born in Peckham, to a Nigerian mother and absent father, he spent the first years of his life with a foster family. And probably this shaped him for life. You get a look at things from a different perspective, and it’s a lifelong search for all the forms of love.
