Young promising singer and rapper Killavesi  just dropped a new track called “Unlikely” produced by Nick Sylvester. Get to know the Los Angeles based talent a little better in our Q&A below.

Photographed by Camille Gorin – a french model and creative living in Paris, traveling the world and having a huge love for street photography and portraits. Her diary: camillegorin.tumblr.com

Who was your role model as a child?

When I was younger, I looked to my mom for examples of things I did and didn’t want to be when I grew up. I really value the lessons I learned, and am still learning from her and her overall presence in my life.

What did your parent first think of you being a musician and where they supportive?

Initially, they didn’t take me seriously at all and even though I’ve toured Europe my dad still doesn’t. My mom understands now though and is very supportive, she likes to call herself my ‘mom-ager’ (lol).

How do you approach your creative process?

Usually, I’ll listen to a collection of beats and pick one that stands out most, then I’ll write some lyrics and record them. Sometimes I’ll randomly think of lyrics and get them down.

How would you describe your own personality?

I think I’m a pretty chill person, for the most part. People close to me say I’m mean as hell, but I don’t mean to be that way, I just don’t like ignorance. Other than that I see myself as a very uplifting and positive energy, I try to encourage those around me to be their best selves.

Do you have a fixed or a growth mindset?

Growth, of course. I’ve gotten rid of pretty much everything in my life that may hold me back, expect myself.

What was the last concert you went to?

I went to the Boy Better Know Takeover in London at the O2 Arena. It was great to see persistence in the flesh.

What is your one golden rule in life?

Never give up. Never let any person tell you what you can’t do. Always be true to you.

Next plans?

Got some big surprises coming up for sure. I’m really excited for what the future holds.

Hello from my planet! I love nature, freedom, dancing, traveling, music, reading, chilling, cats and the woods. What makes me happy is healthy food, a good night out, long walks in the forest and getting lost in the sound of nature.
