Ontarian singer-songwriter magenta – formally known as Meghnaa Vasudev – is still just a teenager, but has accomplished much beyond her years. As 2023 saw the release of her debut EP and a slew of singles that carried into 2024, consummating as her second, the young talent is back with another batch. “your love is real” is the first taste of that batch, which magenta has let on is the beginning of her third complete effort, an EP currently slated for early 2025.

Not at all out of line with her previous offerings – which all reside logically within the alt-pop-folk space – the track presents as a step forward for the Toronto-based artist. An unadulterated look into the early goings of a love affair, it’s a particularly raw account that meshes well with its sonic plate. As stamps of approval have come everywhere from Spotify’s Fresh Finds to the Canadian government itself, Vasudev is clearly establishing herself as one to watch in the next short while.

“I wrote the song in June of 2023, one month into dating my girlfriend. It was the first time I’d ever felt something so special, and writing the song was like a celebration of that feeling.”
