They say horses have a sixth sense – an instinctive awareness that tells them when someone is approaching long before they’re within reach. It’s a sensitivity we often forget to trust in ourselves. You feel it when something is off, yet the mind tries to argue against it. And sometimes, you feel your body agree before your mind does.
This beautiful series by photographer David Andre-Wojcieckowski, created together with Sophie Molesti, takes partly form in the quiet on the Le Ranch Nordique ranch in Les Allues, France. Close to the river, wrapped in earthy tones, where strength feels grounded and calm takes on a physical shape. Other moments shift into the wider landscape around Les Allues: firelight in the forest, the crisp silence of snow, open slopes and moving lines. Quiet environments – nature, open landscapes, rhythmic movement – tend to sharpen instinct, simply because external stimuli are reduced. Together, these scenes outline a journey through different forms of stillness, each one shaped by its own kind of instinct.
David Andre-Wojcieckowski and Sophie Molesti also contributed to our C-Heads print volume 39. The issue is a love letter to the simple joys, the human warmth, the in-between moments that often go unnoticed.
