The snow lay in blue shadows across the mountains. It crackled softly, almost like a distant campfire. Breath moved through the cold air in thin golden-white lines, and the peaks stood there, calm and powerful, as if they had always known this day would come.
It was the last opening day of the ski resort, the final ski day of the winter season in France. “I was planning a beautiful sunny day,” photographer David Andre-Wojcieckowski tells us about the series Winterfreuden, “but the weather decided to show everything it had. We got rain, sun, wind, snow – it was really crazy.”
And yet that wildness became the heart of the story. “The girls had so much fun being there, skiing, witnessing and living the elements. It really was a day you add to your life.”

David Andre-Wojcieckowski also contributed to our C-Heads print volume 39. The issue is a love letter to the simple joys, the human warmth, the in-between moments that often go unnoticed.
