What happens when you thrust an old camera into a photographer’s mum´s hand?Alena Gaponova put herself in some else´s shoes and stood in front of the lens while her mother photographed her on a sunny summer day surrounded by beautiful alps.

“At the end of August, I spend some time at my mother’s place. While driving around we stopped at an abandoned stone quarry because I wanted to take some photos. But then I asked my mother Olga Molodova to take a spontaneous image of me and I wanted to show how a mother can see her daughter. As a woman and not as a photographer – who is always behind the camera. We bought some food and went picnic together near a small wild lake called Le Lac du Roi – King’s lake. Everytime when I’m with my mother, I become like a child again. I took some balloons when we left the diner and it was just a wonderful moment. So simple and pleasant. My mum took some more pictures of me and it was a crazy experience to be photographed like I usually do to other people. She used only one roll, and it was such a tremendous surprise to us when I developed the roll! Her pictures have something special and really touching to me.”
