“I am happy, I am where I’m supposed to be and I never thought I would get here all by myself.” For Roxy Fox, life on her finca is many things at once. It is sun, animals, nature and the freedom of having built a home of her own. But behind the beautiful simplicity of these images is also a life that asks a lot of her.
After years of travelling and living on a boat, the adult digital content creator and mother has found a different rhythm. Life on the finca comes with responsibility, unexpected challenges and days that don’t go according to plan. But it has also given her something perhaps even more valuable — the feeling of having arrived somewhere she truly belongs.
There is a similar sense of arrival in the way Roxy talks about herself. As she gets closer to 40, she feels more feminine, powerful and confident than ever. “I finally, truly love my body. I know who I am. I love who I am. I know my worth. And this comes with age.” She speaks about finally loving her body, knowing her worth and finding a kind of peace that comes from no longer needing to impress anyone. Growing older, for her, has become less about what is changing and more about everything she has gained along the way.
Photographed by Siân Cox on 35mm film, the series takes us into Roxy’s world on the island — among her cute animals, around the finca and under the warm sun. The grain and natural warmth of the film feel perfectly at home here, capturing a life that is personal, imperfect and entirely her own.
