“Skateboarding gives you a sense of freedom.”

German based and Romanian born photographer Roland Bogati grew up amongst the urban street cultures of the early 80´s. During his time as a sales person within the fashion industry he also started to photograph for  a small streetwear label and later graduated in photo design focusing on journalism and documentary. Documenting the life of skateboarders is something that he loves and his black and white images speak volumes of youth culture and moments we wish ourselves back into as we get older. “Skateboarding is not a crime, it’s a lifestyle. You can meet friends any time in any city and hang out with them. When you are in another country, go to the hot spot ride with the guys and you will also have a place to sleep and new friends. That’s why I love skateboarding, it gives you a sense of freedom. Those photographs shown here were taken with friends in Pforzheim, Heidelberg and Stuttgart in the South of Germany. My next tour leads me through Eastern Europe.”

Hello from Berlin! I love freedom, travelling, long train rides, Stefan Zweig books, cats, colours, writing postcards, music, and movies à la Woody Allen and Wes Anderson. What makes me really happy is the seaside, sunrises and sunsets and having lots of time!
